I guess it depends. If your team was selected, you are thinking "Wow", as in "Wow, this is an incredibly difficult tourney".
If not, you are thinking "Wow....THEY got in & we didn't?"!

What about when you do all of these things you say and more. have a winning record against most of the teams that get in, and by the way we are 5-1 against stingrays teams over the last two seasons. the one loss was 2-1 and we went on to win the tournament. And we till DONT get in!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I take it there are a few teams in a similar situation. However, not all is lost. The Buckeye Showdown will be well represented with college coaches. Also, Indy Dreams Showcase is the same weekend. If you're 16U, Loudonville is the same weekend. You still have options. Not being in Stingrays is not the end of the world.

I wasn't directing the question to be rude, just curious that's all. Just want to make sure that's clear. The fact that some teams got in that may not have "deserved" it in some folks opinions is just that...... there opinion. Lasers, Gapps, and other invite tournies are the same way. There are some damn good teams that applied and didn't get in no doubt about that! And yes there may be a few that got in that make you go hmmmm? It is what it is though. Best of luck to all the teams whether its Stingrays that weekend or Loudonville, or wherever.....

Are there any Stingrays team(s) that didn't get in? A perk of being in the host org, so that comparison may not hold water...

Did someone from your team post something similar last year?

This appears to be directed towards me. There is one reputation that will always precede this coach. "He rises above". I won't do it.
I will defend myself when publicly attacked, as many of you might recall around tryout time (the threads were removed by Admins because of the severity of the attacks). However, I won't pop off publicly about not making it into a tourney. I do feel there may be teams which could have been given more consideration. None of us (except the committee of Stingrays coaches involved) know the exact criteria used to determine who is accepted & who is not. We may hear rumors about how it's done, and we know we have to complete a resume which highlights accomplishments from the prior year. Some teams could have been amazing last year while playing against a very tough ASA schedule, suffer a bit of turnover for whatever reason, yet their legacy & performance could potentially earn them an invitation. Conversely, a team could have just been average last year, also suffer great turnover but improve. However that team might not get accepted because of their performance in the prior year.
Like Larry Bowman stated...it is what it is.

I think for the most part Stingrays gets it right ... I am sure the process isn't perfect though, and anytime there is a system like this, there are going to be perceived "snubs". And of course they can and should have their own teams in it. I still am waiting for someone to say that the Lasers tournament is selective these days. I know they expanded it a couple years back, and my impression is that everyone who applies by the deadline gets in now, but will be interested to hear if that's not the case.

as being a previous "snubee" and 100% ok with it, I feel that Stingrays does its best to build a soooolid event. After finally getting in last year I really apprecitate the committee's ability to filter through the applications and make the really hard decisions. If your org name doesn't help you first and foremost, and I'm totally guessing here..., my guess is they look at big tournaments (Nationals finishes, years at regionals or full nationals, amount of turnover if disclosed, big-time freindly invites, reputation, and of course close games with the perennial big teams), strength of schedule (are you playing up, are you playing top teams from out of state with success?), and I'd bet 'networking' is part of the intangibles that probably get thought about but few will put out there.

Overall I was very impressed with the 14u bracket. Like I stated in a previous post, I was 1 win and 5 losses against those teams over the past few seasons. This morning I was texting with a dad from a "name" organization with a 16u team and they didn't get it - something like 33 teams out of 96. Yeah snubs and overlooks are possible, but I was personally impressed with the list of teams that did make it. My team got "left out" of an invitational tournament last year and I looked at who they selected and I was scratching my head (and cussing and kicking the dog - WINK!). I sent a note to the TD thanking him for consideration (while pointing out our record against some of teams). He was very nice and later that summer when someone dropped, he invited us to fill the slot (unfortunately I had to decline because of other commitments). The way I see it "one door closes, another one opens".

Len,

Are you sure Indy Dreams Showcase is the same time as Stingrays? It would seem strange that they are sending their elite teams to Stingrays while hosting their own tourney.

I believe Len was referring to Indy Crush Showcase.
