What are the rules for being a sub as far as rostering.

For example if a girl is rostered on a 12u team and her team is not playing that weekend can she sub on a 14u team?

If a girl is rostered on a 10u team and her team is off that weekend can she sub for a different 12u team?

I learned a player can only be rostered on one ASA team and can not sub in anything that is a qualifier. My dd wanted to sub when her team was off, found it easier to just sub at Showcases, not qualifiers. Even if the team says they dont want to qualify, they may change there mind. Out of state doesnt matter.

Changeupmom is correct, if her main team plays ASA and the other tournament is NSA, USSSA, PGF etc then you are fine. If it is a non-sanctioned tournament your are fine.

A same sanctioned tournament is where you can have issue. As earlier stated you can only be on 1 roster also when you play up you can't move back down the rest of the season.

I thought players weren't frozen on an ASA Roster until that team won a berth for nationals?

What if a girl plays on one team and subs for another in the same age group and sactioning body. The caveot is the team she is subbing for has already qualified last fall. Since they already have their birth then the would not receive another birth even if they win the tourn. How does that work or does it not matter? (this has not happened to me I have just heard of it elsewhere so I am curious)

If when you play up you can't play back down how is it a whole team cna move up and play at same 12u and then in another tournament the whole team plays at 10u?

Incorrect. Players are frozen (i.e. redlined) on an ASA Roster when they begin championship play (e.g. play in a qualifier).

Along those same lines... Teams need to also remember if your team plays up a division in a tournament make sure it is not a qualifier/championship play of any kind (eastern, northern, western, southern, asa/usa etc..). I dosent matter weather you accept the bid or not. Our team was going to play up in a fall tournament that happened to be a Asa Eastern Qual, and this was brought up. So to be safe we contacted our district commish and he confirmed that we would be taking a heavy risk in doing so, since we wanting to go to ASA/USA this year. So we did not play up. If you want to play up, just like subbing, make sure it is a showcase or a tourney in a different sanction, or just a tourney that is not a qualif.

USSSA and others do not freeze the roster till you actually qualify and accept a bid. ASA is the hardliner in this game in an effort to keep teams from loading up and players from constantly jumping rosters without a full committment to any 1 team.

PGF's rules have been as restrictive as ASA, although they loosened them up a bit this year by allowing coaches to release players.

There is NOT an issue with playing up in the Fall because ASA runs on a calendar year. The only thing that carries over from one year to the next are berths and teams needing enough returning players to retain them. Otherwise, you are correct about players and teams needing to be careful.
