One of biggest issues is the umps. When a batter gets hit they don't want to call a strike. If a batter is crowding the plate with her toes on the line it is very easy for the elbow to be in the strike zone. If you want to reduce the number of hbp then umps need to start calling the strike and not giving them the free base.

If the body armor was eliminated, would there be fewer hit batters? I believe so. I understand why it is being coached or done but I just don't care for the direction it is headed. You are seeing the same thing in baseball too so it isn't just softball.

/\/\/\Cool little diagram! Thanks!

Obviously, the batter is the only one who truly knows if they want to be hit or get a hit. IMHO, trying to crowd the plate and get hit by a pitch, with intention, cheapens the game.

hang over the plate......screwball above the shoulders. Hit one with a 60mph pitch. Next girl will think twice before stepping in the batters box.
