Team conduct question...

Wasn't sure how to word the header... I was wondering if the individual athletic team, school, league or the OHSAA made the rules as far as tobacco/alcohol/substance abuse. Either way how would one go about obtaining these rules (as far as punishments and who regulates them)? No I'm not looking to stir anything up, or call anyone out. It's all for a project so any information would be helpful. Also feel free to give me your input and opinions. All is appreciated, thanks!

Without looking it up, I'm pretty sure the NFHS or OHSAA states no tobacco for participants. For the crowd, it would need to come from the school, I believe.

Thanks Joe, I'm looking on the OHSAA site now and can't find anything. I did find the one about tobacco on the OCC site though.

Maybe I'm looking in the wrong spot?

Keep it coming folks, I'm a bit of a procrastinator to say the least. I've got just over a week to get this together. If you're not comfortable discussing it here, PM me and I'll send you my email address. No names of leagues or schools will be disclosed, it'll just be a generalization. It will be broken down by district though. Thanks again.

National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS), the governing body for softball rules states:

page 40, Rule 3-6, article 12....

Tobacco products, in any form, are prohibited

Penalty: The umpire shall eject the offender from the game, unless the offense is judged to be of minor nature. ?If minor, the umpire may warn the offender and eject if the offense is repeated.

As for substance abuse, including alcohol, that is left up to the individual school district. ?Each district has a policy, that might involve random drug testing, so you will have to go to a district office to see what they have for a policy.

Our AD said team discipline starts with the coach, then AD, then prinipal, then superintendent if necessary. I don't know if substance abuse is handled differently, though.
