Here's the situation. dd try outs for four teams, gets offers from 3.The team that was at the top of our list (they are also one @ the top of the softball chain):) calls offers a spot. This is the second try out.Talk with coach etc.etc. very interested in the team will let them know after another try out honest with them.Goes to third try out.Now we have 3 offers. The night before the 4th try out gets call from team at the top of our list.Says do to not being able to put the team together they are looking for to wear the ? name and girls are just saying closer to home, due to economy, etc. they won't be having a team.Find that hard to believe with all the try outs they had in Oh.So we are disappointed.
Next day 4th try out.Fast forward we had 3 out of 4 offers. Now down to 2.So we chat about it, call and accepted a spot on the #3 try out team. Talk with coach get details blah.blah.blah.All is good he will be in touch via email with more info.Week goes bye & last night the team we was going to be on says they won't be having a team also due to the say reason as the other team gave. Now it's gettn late to find a team.
The gals that have been through these try outs and worked hard are on the fence looking again.Just was wondering if anyone else was running into these situations out there.
Thanks

You can always check with the other teams she tried out for, or keep an eye on the posting for teams still needing players.
You can also check with other teams in the area to see if any of them are still looking for players.
I know last year some teams didn't fold until the winter, and most of those kids were able to find teams who were still looking for a player here or there.
Just keep your head up, something will turn up for her....

CBK,
don't fret, good teams are always looking right up to May next year, as some of the players don't fit, move, walk away etc... Don't panic, you will get her one that fits... Same thing every year.

Some teams are still having try outs yet..........Ohio Danger is having there first one this weekend Aug. 29th @ Beavercreek Rotary Park. I know that some teams in the area I am from have been having problems and folding also. Check out the Danger website for more info.

This is the second wave of girls. These are the girls who's teams have folded, or they changed their minds, or they were offered better and it fell through. After fall ball there will be another wave of girls from the teams that cannot complete their rosters and fold, leave after fall ball when they realize that it wasn't the right team, or girls who are stragglers. All through the winter players will become available for whatever reason. There is always a team for them as alot of teams haven't filled their rosters yet. There are still 31 pages of Teams Looking for Players so you won't be shut out.

If the organizations that weren't able to put together a team have good name recognition as being interested in top quality players, I don't think there is a problem with you posting a thread under Players Looking for Team that says "Had offers from [name of organization] and [name of organization] but both have since determined that they cannot field the [insert age group] team for which she tried out." Bear or Johnnies will tell me if that violates some OFC rule. But assuming no OFC problem, I think your ability to name the quality organization will immediately attract interest from other quality teams. You don't have to bash the organization, just report truthfully that the organization has decided it can't go forward with that team. It's a rare organization that hasn't had to back off of an anticipated team for unanticipated reasons.

GREAT idea.... I would ask the Bear though so your post doesn't get ate!! Everyone else is right though if she tried out for a "top" team, they folded, she will find a spot

I don't have a problem with that type of post as long as it stays focused on trying to find the girl a team; i.e. I will deal harshly with any hijack attempts.:cap:

Thanks for all the wonderful support and info.I'm not sure who this hits harder my dd or me.Since I'm the one stressed out the most and tryn to find another team before fall ball starts is my goal.I know anything is possible in this wonderful game of softball. I was just curious on the status of other teams and org. out there. If they are struggling a bit with players.

I wouldn't say that the 10/12/14/16's for the Diamond Dogs are struggling to get players. They had a pretty good turnout for their tryouts. I know that they are looking to add a couple players here and there to the various age groups. As Klump said, "the players that are available tend to come in waves."

Also, it does seem that there has been a fair number of new teams and organizations this year cropping up. This could affect the number of available players. That, combined with a lousy economy, would have a negative effect on an organization's ability to pick up players.

Plus, you're only about 1/2 hour- 40 mins from Stark County. There are a lot of teams in any direction. Good luck.

Yes finding the right players is tough right now, there are many non organizational teams that carry good talent looking hard to find players to put in the circle.

Something to help you in a tip: Recruitment is always big in August and September but that is not the end of it...... many teams start secondary recruitment in Feb. as well. So, making it known you have a free agent player in a Post will find you a home for active teams.
