Team need, question?

I read on here all the time about teams needing players, so my question or questions are,
Most teams had tryouts long ago, so did these teams just not get the numbers they needed, are they looking for team jumpers, are they not capable of training the girls that tried out for the teams, are they not going to play if they don't get these players?

I seen teams post on here that I thought were pretty good programs, just curious.

There are several reasons that teams may still be looking for players at this time. Some, seem to me, to be very legitimate. They may not have had enough players tryout initially to complete the team. (It may have been not enough bodies or it may have been a shortage at a particular position.) Someone they kept after tryouts may have been injured, may have moved away, may have left for another team, may have decided to give up softball, etc. Some reasons to still be looking for players do not seem, to me, to be legitimate. The two worst ones, it seems to me, are trying to find a better player than one you kept after tryouts and then getting rid of the original player or finding a better player and just benching the original player until they quit.

Alot of teams are still looking for players, usually these teams arent just looking for anyone, they are searching for a specific player such as:catcher, pitcher or maybe a lead off hitter etc. to give their team an edge or fill a void that they might feel they have. But in some areas they can be hard to find, due to the fact that there are already quite a few existing teams coupled with so many new start up programs. This really stretches out the "pool" of players to choose from.

One of the girls that we picked for our 16-U White Team at tryouts in August had to drop out because of financial reasons and family schedule conflicts. A pitcher that we picked at tryouts has evidently decided to not play and told everyone but the coaches. We are trying like crazy to find the last two players to complete this team, but as everyone knows, it's very difficult this time of year. The girls that are already on this team are very good players and they deserve our commitment to finding them the players they need.

We had a couple of girls who decided in the last couple of months to focus on other sports/activities and one who decided to change organizations because she wanted to pitch and we told her she just wouldn't get much of a chance to do it with us. We would never go out and pick up a player because she was better than someone else we have. Once we offer a spot and it is accepted, we are 100% committed to that player. When we do have to look for players late in the process, it only makes sense to try to find someone who fills a gap as Valleyextreme said ... e.g., we have 3 pitchers and 3 catchers already (all of whom do play other positions) so we will not bring on another pitcher or catcher no matter how good they might be.

Could be all of the above, or a parent loses their job, they find out how far some teams actually travel and what the true costs will be after the euphoria of making the team etc....

Hillard I think you have it it on the head! Finances are crucial with most families right now. Team offers a spot and they are excited and take the opportunity. A few months later unexpected, mom and/or dad are laid off. . .companies down size. . .company closes. All of these cause parents/players to have to make choice that are difficult. Typically that is no extra's at all.

Very sad, and I certainly understand this situation, because my family is facing it as well.

Teams have to fill the open slots to be able to field a team.

Agree with JWB. Have had girls quit due to financial reasons or wanting to pursue other sports/activities. Also committed to our current players and would look for a player that will complete our current team.

I know in our case, I was notified this evening that 2 players decided not to play this season, one so she can concentrate on basketball and the other decided she wanted to take time off, that leaves us with 9.

There are many reasons behind these posts. I think the main reason is that there are some girls who are iffy about which team they choose, and the coach feels that they may back out of their choice, so they look for some other player just in case it happens.
