Pitching and Pitchers Discussion Tendonitis Strap - What is the rule for pitchers?

My daughter has worn a tendonitis strap on her right forearm when she pitches for about 5 years. She was advised to do this by a sports medicine doctor after dealing with tendonitis in her right elbow when she was 12.

Its only been an issue once or twice and each time, after she explains its purpose to the umpire, she is allowed to pitch with the tendonitis strap on.

Last night though during a high school game, the umpire told her she needed to remove the strap.

What is the official ruling on this by the OHSAA? Does it differ at all for USSSA, ASA, NSA?

If the strap is on the pitching arm and is deemed to be distracting to the batters, in the umpires opinion, then she cannot wear it.

If she wears a long sleeve shirt to cover the strap, it should eliminate the issue.

You got a good answer for high school ball. This is strictly umpire judgement. If the umpire judges it to be distracting to the hitters, he may ask that it be removed. It isn't an OHSAA rule, but is actually an NFHS (National Federation of State High School Associations) rule.

For ASA, the exact same rule applies.

USSSA- same rule.

NSA- same, again!

We had the same problem last year. In our case the strap matched the uniform and was not an issue until the opposing team was behind.

I think a good coach will use ANY advantage possible to win.
