HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. The Northern Kentucky University softball team will be hosting its three-week Winter Academy for grades 4-12 on Jan. 11, 18, and 25, 2009 at Regents Hall on the NKU campus. NKU coaches and players will provide instruction in all aspects of fastpitch softball.

The academy will be broken into five separate one-hour sessions each week. There will be two separate Hitting Academies, which will take place each Sunday from 10-11 a.m. and from 1-2 p.m. The Hitting Academy will focus on hitting and bunting instruction, hitting circuit and base running techniques. Helmets and bats will be provided, but attendees may bring their own.

The Pitching Academy will take place from 11 a.m. to noon and is broken into beginning, intermediate and advanced groups. The academy will use developmental drills to teach the mechanics of the fastball. Change up and drop ball instruction may be provided once the fastball mechanics are grasped. Pitchers are asked to bring their own catchers.

The Defense Academy and Catching Academy will occur simultaneously from 2-3 p.m. The Defense Academy will teach fielding and throwing fundamentals, while the Catching Academy will teach throwing, blocking, covering bunts, pop ups, and steals.

Each separate, one-hour academy is $60, covering all three Sundays. Participants should come dressed to work out.

Please call 859-572-5939 for information and to register.
thank you.

So if my daughter wants to hit and catch, it would cost $120 and we would need to be there either 10-11 OR 1-2 to hit and then from 2-3 to catch?

My dd loves the NKU clinic. She has been to a few of them now. The instruction she receives from the coaches and players is great. She has been to other instrutors in the past, but she thinks Coach Gregg is the best she has ever had. If you are intersted in learning from one of the best, you should check this clinic out.

I personally witnessed a few sessions of this acadamy last year. The coaching staff and the NKU players are great with the kids, offer very solid instruction, and utilize great drills. The participants are constantly doing something and they seem to love every minute of it. Kathy and Chip offer this all-encompassing academy at an incredible price. Your kids will benefit greatly from it.

There's a school called Northern Kentucky? They have sports teams there? Who do they play? Northern South Carolina? Southern North Carolina? Eastern West Virginia?

Playallday,

Don't feel like you have to justify NKU's athletic programs to those who don't know any better. I graduated from NKU and am proud to have been a part of their strong, growing athletic tradition. Usually, the people trying to poke fun at NKU are the same apologists making excuses for UC and its tough non-conference basketball schedule, against such hoops powers as ITT Tech, Butler Career College, Charlston Southern, Eastern Kentucky, West Jesus, Northeastern Illinois Tech State among others. haha. Oh well.

CFury,

I agree, and didn't their softball team have a 60+ game winning streak a couple of years ago?

My daughter ( a NKU freshman ) likes to refer to it as THE Northern Kentucky University.

Cathy and Chip do a fantastic job! They are great teachers of the game and they both have a passion for it also. They are great people and coaches. Have been to the camp and walked away having learned and daughter got better. What more could you ask for?

Yeah, Dolara7 is making HER way onto my block list..... Funny how people are. This forum is for the girls as much as it is for the addicted parents and coaches, and I'm sure the NKU young female athletes appreciate the BS comment made.
