Sorry you are correct.....should change that to realistic natural ability..... thank you lol
Exactly...... We have all seen the guy who tells you what a stud his kid is, a sure fire future college prospect. Only to not be able to see what her father sees when you watch her play. It is hard to say at what point you come to realize your kid has what it takes. Normally it is a little easier to be optimistic when both parents were good athletes(or at least one) You know for sure there is potential when people are telling YOU how good your kid is. Actually, a very touchy subject. Parents need to take the kid in the right direction, at the risk that it might be all for not. We see stars at 12 who never pan out, and we see average kids who all of a sudden come into their own. For us it was an attitude of, "lets do what it takes and if that isnt good enough down the road, so be it". We guessed the talent was there. We knew the determination and drive was there. Early on we saw the love of the game was there, so we went for it. Not sure how other parents come to the place where they realize their kid has "it", "it" is hard to describe.Sorry you are correct.....should change that to realistic natural ability..... thank you lol
While I understand Bustos point in an earlier post. There is not a 12 year old that can play for any college team. Remember folks, just like some of these coaches, including myself, you have to wade through the bs to get to the actually point. My dd could practice twice as hard as Bustos, I could send to her to the best private coaches, I could fly her around the country. And she would not ever, ever come close to being the hitter that Bustos is. You can blame me for that - genes. Do you not think that there are guys that out work LeBron. LeBron is a freak, and so is Bustos, Finch, Whately,..etc.
Probably a good reason why 3% of the players go on to play in college. It still baffles me that you get 40 or 50 kids show up for a hitting camp and you ask the question who has hit this week . In 70% has not picked up a bat in 7 days!

Hitters need to work twice as hard as pitchers......... period`
I love Ohio fastpitch. I let my frustrations with you guys get me fired up. Act like a bunch of know it alls.
All the idolizing you people do is funny. Just like in life behind kissing is so funny. I am glad you all can't notice it. Maybe you should all bring your noses back down to earth and you will be able to see Ohio has some darn good players.
The population is the only difference. My oldest DD has played for over 10 years and 6 of them has been year round. Can you believe it even here in Ohio you can play and practice year round.
Let me also touch on something here. If all of you know so much and what the problems are how come you can't fix it. There is enough of you on here if you could all get your players together it would be the greatest team in the world.
The girls and the parents were told they are not working hard enough on their own to take it to the next level...it was the same message at your show case when she asked how many had practiced the week of your show case and only 7 kids raised their hands as to doing it ONCE knowing there would be 25 college coaches watching them.
Dan that is not in the gene pool, that is the girls being lazy and a lack of time management on their part. We have kids in college that are not the greatest athletes however as Crystl said if you can hit a ball they will find a place for you and you will get in the game.
Thanks Howard
Howard,
You have referenced that many times, about only 7 girls raised their hands at my showcase. I knew/know many of the girls there. Not to be jerk about things, but most attend formal hitting several times a week along with hitting on their own in converted garages or basements. As kids sometimes do when ask a question, they did not come forward. In that crowd were at least 10 big 10 Committs, 3 SEC committs, and numerous other committments. So they do/did work to get where they are at.
You also wont win the arguement that the proper genetics do not help in certain things in life. Crystal's genetics most definately allows her to hit a ball 350 ft, run 2.8 to first, throw a softball 70mph. This does not say she didnt bust her butt or overcome many odds to get where she is today. But absolutely, genetics played a huge role in her developement as a player.
Dan the same question was asked at Columbus as was asked in Indy so it must be in the water.
Crystl is taller than Mom or Dad
Your friend will be here Wed.
Thanks Howard
