I think there is way to many sanctionng bodies ASA, NSA, USSSA, Pony, USFA, NHFSA, AFA I know i am missing a few. But they all have some differences and rules that are not the same. I think this is what is wrong with Umpires getting confused, Coaches not sure of the rules, players both confused and not sure of the rules. This needs to stop. Why cant we just have 2 or 3 governing bodies.

Does anyone else feel the same. I mean some girl is pitching one tournament and is fine, the next tournament she is illegal in her form (different sanction) next tournament something else is wrong etc.

How many sports have so many sanctioning bodies, does football, baseball, basketball, hockey, soccer etc. Where their rules are different like with our fast pitch sanctions.

Lets all just stick with A.S.A tournaments and N.S.A. touraments less confusion that way.

if our teams only sign up for A.S.A or N.S.A leagues and tournaments then no more bing bling for the other santions, and they will fall.

Re: To many sanctioning bodies

As with anything, it's all about supply and demand. If there were no demand, they (and their tournaments) would cease to exist. As long as enough people are willing to part with their cash, and get their perceived money's worth, things will continue as they are.

Face it - some people will buy ANYTHING! I mean, somebody bought some Yugos.

Some teams like the ASA exposure tournaments, but some prefer maybe a less competitive NSA or USSSA type tournament schedule. It's wherever your team fits in. Less sanctioning bodies means less tournaments, and less tournaments means fewer opportunities for girls to play - at any level. And I don't think making less opportunities is a good thing for girl's softball. JMHO.

Hey, me too. Mine lasted for 150,000 miles. Great 2nd car.

Supply and demand has little to do when sanctions tell the TDs that they will not allow any other tournaments within so many miles and then do exactly the opposite. They do not realize that it diminishes their reputation when you see a flood of that sanctions tournament on a particular weekend. When a tournament folds due to this practice - it is a black eye to that sanction. Is it greed? or is it an effort to lure teams from other sanctions? What does it to to the sanctioning body reputation when a number of their tournament fold due to oversaturations in a given area?

Oversaturation of supply lessens the demand. Basic economics.

Ahh yes Johnnies - but those sanctioning bodies that bite the hand of the TD's that feed them would normally fade from existence. It's like a really bad restaurant - if the food tastes like crap, you get bad service, and/or it's too expensive - DON'T GO BACK!!! Hence the fate of the Yugo, Corvair, Edsel... (Excluding historical and sentimental value).

Problem is, people keep patronizing them!! They keep going back year after year!! I've never been able to rationalize this thinking. If there are SO MANY choices, why keep patronizing the same crappy ones??

Ahhh yes. Supply and demand. When the NSA nationals is in Columbus and gas at 3.79 and rising daily...... NSA sees a gold mine to saturate Ohio with NSA tourneys - to the point of having more supply than demand....and you have to play NSA State before validating your hard earned berth. After all that, you get the opportunity to pay $600 more to play in the nationals.

As far as patronizing some tournaments that did the distardly deeds I mentioned earlier and are still around....

I will not give out names but I do challenge the teams to be very aware of any tournament that is run by a TD that also coaches a team in their tournament. Watch and see if anything is changed in midstream. It has happened in the past and most likely will continue. Oh well, I saw enough to blacklist that tournament from any future consideration. I would rather play in Bugtussle.

sammy, isn't that the pavlov's dog syndrome? keep the bell ringing, dog salivates...TD bears the tourney, teams lap it up, reagrdless...or was this another mad scientist theory (rifles through edu books collecting dust)...I'll get back to you on that one

Re: To many sanctioning bodies

there are so many new teams each year that want a chance to play at a National event. So they go to joe-bob's southeastern WORLD series and play in a national tournament. not to crack on Joe-Bob but I hear their bases are at 59' 6".... The Ohio Classics have worked their way up thru Pony's and NSA's. And along the way played some great teams and in some cases brought homesome nice hardware. variety as soon as we reduce the number of sanctioning bodies the prices go up even more.

Must be talking about NSA.

JMHO - ASA and USSSA are the two best and N$A is all about the Benjamin's.

I'm NSA and it is not about the benjimans or I wouldn't give out the prizes I do.... Johnnie is right as on the June 28th and 29th weekend... NSA back up a tournament right on top of me in Columbus... 55 miles away..... I spent one and a half on a conference call to NSA Headquarters yesterday on this matter. I am the only NSA place in Southwestern OHio right now and they backed one on my door step. And they wanted me to start up NSA in USSSA territory because that is all that is here..... USSSA mostly. I was with USSSA for over 24 years in one way or another when I made the jump.

Like I said, I don't give dust collectors as prizes. And yes it did upset me.

Re: To many sanctioning bodies

DD's travel team finally went to a predominately ASA schedule from 14u up. Somehow, the luster is lost when you can simply buy your way into a tournament that you really didn't qualify for. I'm not necessarily a pro ASA nut, but there are too many sanctions that smack of cash flow and profits over quality and integrity. The Last NSA tournament my DD played in was at a horrible venue called Softball World south of Cleveland. When the rain hit, it really brought out how bad this place - and NSA - were. It was SO BAD that I refused to let my DD play there again - fortunately her coaches saw it the same way.

There is better out there. All you have to do is plan ahead, work hard and don't patronize the sanctions and tournaments that treat you like dirt. It's a matter of pride.

Softball World in Brook Park ? I did a Men's Major there years ago...umpire that is. I have a wonderful park n Wilmington ... a city park and no admissions and restaurants galore around in a three block area and motels as well in that same area....

Best "little known park around" is the word of some people...lol.... but nobody comes....lol ... you figure.....

Quakerman - Never said that is what you were about. You do a great job both as a TD and an umpire. I said the NSA was all about the money and your story only strengthens my opinion of them.

Re: To many sanctioning bodies

I know you didn't... and even though I have no idea of who you are...lol... I thank you very much. ?I work hard at my umpiring and have for years. ?I brought NSA to southwestern Ohio so the teams would not have to travel way up North to play the game. ?I try my best to give everything to the girls as I think dust collectors are just that dust collectors (trophies). ?When I had a coach tell me that the team trophy goes into the dumpster before he gets home... then I just thought these coaches know what their girls need. And thus, I give travel monies to the winners....

I got a call from Michigan, Indiana today wanting to find a tournament in 12u as their's is cancelled this weekend.

I run one day events in the Spring (none so far because nobody gets in) because of the weather in Ohio in the Spring. ?How many two day events went off so far this year?

And why in the world is it so important to play in a big tournament.. when in realty you play three teams in the round robin and at lest one more in the single elim.

So why not play in a one day tournament with five teams. ?And be able to have Sunday if Sat is rained out ?to play the round robin... and on top of that play for some real prizes ?

I guess I don't understand ... but I can tell you I love umpiring the girls as their excitement keeps me in the game versus the men teams I have done for 24 years.

Wilmington is a park that is little known... but we get great reviews from the teams that play here..... and they love it.

I got one on June 28th and 29th... It is an elite, a all-star rec and a roster rec tourney. ?All three.... One way or another I'm going to fill this place.... and if it is the rec teams wanting to win the prizes... so be it. ?I e-mailed every city rec I could find on the net the past two days.

My principle is... if I can get the teams in here and they do business here... which the parents of these kids do in motels and restaurants... I'm going to go to these establishments and hook them for a little sponsership monies so I can give those great big prizes. ?I have always wanted to give away a pitching machine in each age group as the girls could use them to help with their hitting.

I'm telling ya... one day it will happen... But, it takes the team coming to the tournaments.

I opened up the Little Lady Quakers UNiform Blowout in Chillicothe for all teams to enter. ?We are giving away uniforms ($600 certificate/cashier's check) in October......

I'll be sending out the 3000 e-mails on MOnday.

Johnnie: ?Hope I don't crash the site with all the rec teams coming to the site looking for the 2 rec tournaments I posted....lol ... I post my tournaments in eight states on eteamz.

Go check out these diamonds. ?Private Park as well.

www.heislerpark.com click Teams and then click aerial view. ?Nice Park. Please note that there is a new parking lot in the left bottom corner that is not in the picture...lol

But, again thank you. ?I do the best I can do for the girls and in Wilmington we are centrally located for Cincy, Dayton, Columbus ad points east.

Easy there Quakerman. That late June date has been in the works for three years now which is about 2 years longer than you have been running NSA events. John has been trying to get me a second date in central Ohio for that entire time and Berliner is finally free this year for me to host one.

You can call National all day long, but some of us have been around with the NSA longer than 5 minutes and have stood at the back of the line like everyone else did at one time or another before we got what we desired.
