Tough Coaching Decision

This weekend I witnessed what I thought was one of the most couragous coaching decisions I have witnessed. The team had used all of their subs and had 9 players on the field. The pitcher developed quite an attitude on the mound. She laughed after hitting a batter, talked back to her coaches, made hand gestures to the other team and was a total disgrace. The coach pulled her from the game and played with 8 on defense and took an out for the player on offense.

Hurray for this coach for encouraging disipline and fair play with his team!

Just to clear this up and to move on.
This KID was pulled from the game for nothing other than A&E after a play. This kid by no means was at that time or ever has been a disgrace. She hit a batter but she did not laugh or make hand gestures that I was aware of. This happened due to not maintaining composure after an error and nothing more.

This kid has been great since (not one issue) and the team as a whole seem to be taking the A&E more seriously. Athletically, this kid is very gifted and the sky is the limit for her.

If a player, parent or anyone else attepted to hurt a kid on purpose, laughed after hurting a kid, verbally made derrogatory comments toward opponents or officials and/or made hand gestures toward another team;....... getting pulled from the game would be the least of their problems. This simply was not the issue though and I wanted to clear that up.

All the best,

Forgive my ignorance, but what is A&E? I assume either attitude and ___, or you are speaking of the cable station that plays old movies.

KUDOS, Coach D & Coach R!!!
You handled the situation at the time that was in the best interest of the KID and your team. But even more important, you have stood by her, gave her the confidence and guidance that was needed and now show her the support that she needs after being "called out" on a public forum!! I do realize that the original thread was to give "props" to the coaches, but in the meanwhile only degraded the KID. I know that if I was the topic of this type of thread, I would have a hard time taking the field again, much less playing well. I have seen this young lady play several games since this incident and must say that she rose above it all!! Nice job, young lady!!

There was never a kid called out. I made no mention of an individual, an organization or a coaches name. The organization decided to use the incident as a prop.

The A&E Network is great for old guys like me.:)

In this case and with every youth team I have coached it applies to Attitude and Effort. As a coach I am responsible for the X's and O's and the players bring their A&E and apply it at every event. This allows kids to have goals only they can control a positive "can do" attitude (regardless of the situation) and 100% effort in all they do. If they do this I will own the blame for the losses and they deserve ALL the credit for the wins.

Greg,

I know you meant the best by your post and I appreciate it. I had no intention of discussing this on this forum at the time of the incident or anytime there after. This was brought back up to me so I revisited the post to clear the air. Thanks again for your kind words and I wish you and yours all the best.

DJ,
I only meant the post as a positive for the coaches involved. There are some who twist everything!
