I am wondering how long should I expect to get a refund after dropping a tournament? We registered our team to play in a tourn in July, but due to circumstances, had to withdraw. I contacted to tourn director and did everything right and he informed me we would get full refund. This was in July, and I have still not received my $475. I have contacted him nunerous times and he keeps telling me one thing after the other. I am wondering how long is typical?

Not typical at all ... you should have received your refund within 30-60 days in my opinion ...

Agree with Jeff, refunds are usually sent out within a couple of weeks. You said you follow the guild line setforth by the (TD) to properly withdraw from said tournament. After doing tournaments for over 15 years I can tell you only about 5% even came close to following the guild lines we had in place for withdrawing a team from my events. So you would definitely be the exception to the rule.

As a TD, I try and get refunds out within 2 weeks.

I agree on the 2 weeks as well, but (td) how many Coaches or Teams have you found that follow the guild lines you have in-place for getting refunds? Its always seem to me I was lucky to find 5% even come close to follow any guild lines we had in-place. The thing that would t me off most, was when a team would be a no show without even so much as a phone call or email. Then 60 days later come back and slam my tournament because I wouldn't give them a refund. I've have had that happen a lot over the years. I think I may start a new topic what guild lines are fair for (TD'S) to put in-place for dealing with teams pulling out of tournaments.

If you read it, our stated refund policy is pretty strict. However we have almost always gone above and beyond what we say we will do in the policy. Generally, the only time we strictly abide by the policy is if a team puts us in a bad spot and we have to scramble at the last minute. But other than that, we have tried to do what we think is fair and how we'd want to be treated as coaches. 9 times out of 10, coaches have been appreciative.

For summer events, many times you are paying many months in advance.
So things can come up in between where needing to drop for numerous reasons.
This past fall I had 2 teams drop after making payment, but prior to any deadlines. I let them know their entry fee would be returned.
But they also have to understand that along with real life, many hours are being spent getting the tournament going! And returning a fee is very low on the list of what needs to be done to make the event a success! So it may not occur until a couple weeks after the event also.

Anyone dropping after deadline or announced as full - No Refund, unless replaced by someone paying........This is very bad on the part of the coach/team who does this type of stuff.

Now if I pay for an event now, that is scheduled in July - I need to drop in March - that should be returned within 30 days tops, if not sooner........

Yes, I followed guidelines. We did register and pay for tournament early in the year. When we decided to withdraw, I emailed the TD 1st to be sure we would be ok to drop without any penalty. He replied to let him know within the following week, which I emailed back that we indeed were withdrawing. He sent me a confirmation and everything seemed ok. I was figuring it would be a few weeks after the tournament was over before we would get refund, but it has been almost 5 months. I have been in contact with him and he keeps giving me stary after story

Tell him you're going to have to call him (and his organization if applicable) out on this Forum ... even if you're not sure you would ...

Agreed, call them out or at this point they have got you. No way it shouldn't be taken care of any more than 30 days after the event. With all the prep, I can see waiting until after but that should be a top priority.

Happy to say, after FIVE months, that I finally received our refund! Think they thought I would forget about it! Thanks for all of the input!

Most likely they were aware of your post and didn't want it to go public. Glad they did the right thing.
