Training Journal

Since the Cali teams/players thread has been such a hot topic I thought I would start a thread on one of the things we can do to help our DD?s improve on their own.
We are starting a daily journal so she can track / remember what needs to be done.

With that in mind I am looking for some samples, suggestions, goals, comments, etc to include with the calendar.

Example:
TEE work (5X per week)
Pitching (5X per week)
Weight training (3X week)
Cardio (3X week)

Very interested in everyone?s input on this. I would be more than happy to share when complete.

Thanks!

Skilbane...nice post. Funny you posted this thread. Was telling my DD we need to build some type of training log to monitor progress. I would be interested in any suggestions to give us a starting point.

My DD pitching coach has her fill out a journal of everything she does that relates to softball. It includes doing push-ups, sit-ups, wall sits or anything that is workout related. Her teams coach is doing the same thing. He also has been sending them situation papers. The girls have to know where everyone is going when the ball is hit. Depending on if someone is on base and how many outs there are. Helping make the girls accountable for the work that they put into softball is what they will each get out of it.

Calendar is crucial for scheduling and conflict identification especially if Multi-Sport athlete as it is SOOO easy to skip for so many reasons, but once committed to calendar, there has to be some real self management done to ensure balance & growth are occuring in the manner DDs & Trainer's goals have been set as well as guarding against fatigue.

Sports Performance Institute(Kris Lewandowski) is fantastic not only at the physical training component, but the MENTAL/MATURITY DD & Parental ownerhship component as there are so many negative and positive decisions WE can make that will either HELP or HINDER the training program.

Journaling Daily has become paramount in monitoring and identifying what is working and when negative results occur possibly identifying what in the last day, days, week, weeks, month lead up to the negative performance or results if & when they occur, so INTELLIGENT MODIFICATIONS & DECISIONS can be made to re-inforce the positive and eliminate the negatives from re-curring.

DD learning how to MAKE these identifications and decisions herself will be TREMENDOUS in how valuable and successful HER training will be the rest of her career.

GREAT TOPIC. Love to hear what others are doing too.

Contact Kris Lewandowski @ Sports Performance Institute if you're SERIOUS about Performance Training.

When we started with the xpress years ago it was mandatory for us at the time . We were 11u then . I like the idea for the younger ones. A sense of guidence and purpose not to mention a sense of accomplishment when they look back on it

My girls are 12,15, & 18.
15 year old is the most forgetfull but the other two loose track often. I think they all need to step it up some.

I also agree 100% regarding the mental training. I plan on a seperate tab in the binder dedicated to it.

We recommend keeping a journal and bringing it to the clinics and usually a few do.

There are three types of learners:

Visual learners make up about 65% of the population and they jot down key points on post it notes and display around the house.

The kinesthetic learner is when someone learns things from doing or being part of them.

Auditory learner is a learning style in which a person learns most effectively by listening to information delivered orally in lectures and speeches.

The best way to keep notes is to encourage them to make sketches, drawings and use a multi colored ink pen. They make one with 5 colors in one. When taking notes tell them it is their note book and to doodle or draw mark anything they want as it is to help them remember what the coach or instructor is telling them.

When possible use video tape and schedule time to review good, better and best swings or throwing techniques for example.

The PEP program is on line at the Santa Monica Sports Med web site and this will help them to stay healthy as to the ACL by teaching them how to land, jump and cut and is a foundation for them to build from.

Where ever the bat bag goes the note book should go in my opinion.

This was required for the CNST girls and was reviewed every month to assure what was being said was written down. You may discover what you are teaching may not be understood.

Thanks Howard
