Another rain filled weekend in Dayton/Troy. Started raining here around 10:00 and is now finally starting to clear out. Damage seems to be done though. Coaches meeting at 3:00pm.

Glad to see a tournament keeping everyone informed and every possible effort to clear the fields and make them playable. Not the best weather but great communication so people are not sitting around waiting for information......and no gate fees.....yeah!

I would agree and I also will agree with the ground maintenance being excellant. Did not mean to sound harsh with you, MVV 14. Just that "You will not play before 11:00 am" is not enough info. This is the first tournament that I have been to that there were no bracket times given for Sunday.

Also, let me get anyones opinion on this scenario.........
A game has six minutes left when play is stopped due to rain. Teams wait out the rain and field crews start to repair fields. Coaches from both teams and the umpires gather on the field and discuss finishing the game. Team A is home team, up to bat, and leading 1 - 0. After discussion, Team B says that they are done. Teams line up and shake hands......... game over Team A wins, right? Well, Team A goes to TD rep at the location to see what time they play on Sunday, and are told to go to other location to see TD.

Team A coaches send team home, and go to other location to find no TD. They leave assuming that they will be notified.

In the meantime, Team B decides that they will go to TD and say that they were "forced" into forfeiting and agreed to nothing. Then why did Team B accept the discussion and have their team line up, indicating "game over" and shake hands on the field???? It's pretty sad that ADULT have to lie in order for their team to win.

Well, TD is only taking the word of Team B!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He has received calls from three of Team A reps and said he would look into it further and return calls. NO CALLS RETURNED!!

Last the TD said is that Team A went home and did not finish the game and now must take the forfeit of 7 - 0 loss. How about asking the umps that were there?????

This is a pretty shabby way for a team to get a win if you ask me............ and definately not fair to the team that won. And let me also mention that Team A would have gladly stayed and played if they knew they even had a game to finish. How do you show up and finish playing a game when u do not even know there is a game to finish??

I think Curt has done a great job considering the circumstances..

Our 18u game was stopped last night with game time over, tied score, bases loaded, with the DD coming to bat....

This tournament is like any other I have been to with rain. Curt was doing what he could. I saw more diamond dry on 1 field yesterday than I saw all weekend at NSA States. He was trying to get games in. Communication is what you make of it. I called Curt 5-6 times on Saturday and he answered my call every time and gave me the information he had at the time or told me to call back at a certain time. His phone number was put out there for everyone. Bad weather is never easy to deal with and I think he handled it fine.

I wish NSA would do away with the 50 minute time limit and come up with something that allows for a softball game to be played. 2 weekends in a row. I know this is not Curt's fault but NSA has to come up with something better or they are going to lose a lot of teams if they haven't already.

Great work by Curt and his crew. The rain stunk and so did 50 min. games, but I feel that they tried in every possible way to communicate, work the fields, and complete the games!

Our team enjoyed this tournament. ? Even though it rained buckets and we spent a lot of time waiting, our team would return. ? The difference between this tournament and the NSA states last weekend is that Curt and his crew made a concerted effort to get our games played. ?The crew at this tournament worked the fields, used lots of diamond dry and if a field was beyond fixing they had a backup plan with alternative fields. ?I think that's all that people want; they know that we cannot control the weather, but they want to see people making an effort. ? ?They want communication and they want a backup plan in place in case of rain. ?

Curt made sure that every team got to play at least 2 pool games. ?The crew spent a lot of time getting the fields ready on Saturday; 2 games were played on each field, then the rain came again. ?A decision was made that the fields were unplayable, so there was a backup plan for the teams to go to another field to complete their games. ?

Unlike the the other tournaments this weekend that just cancelled their tournaments because of the rain, the tournament went on even with about 3 inches of rain. ?After Saturday's rains, Sunday turned out to be a beautiful day. ?The sun was shining and there was cool breeze at times; just perfect softball weather.

I agree... Curt and crew did a great job... bags of field dry, multiple locations, everything that we could ask for under the conditions. I do think that TD's really need to look at something like Heatn' it Up did - OneCall system... get every coaches cell phones and put into OneCall - and use it to mass communicate - OR - use the internet better. If I was running a large tourney I would appoint someone as the communication director and make sure we got it all covered.. it is the not knowing, mis-communication, etc that get's folks frustrated.

Two other comments - umpires for 10u were outstanding (but for one in the field) - some of the local guys were great, friendly and managed the games well.

Lastly, nothing but good things to the 10u Blaze and their coaches - great team, great kids and coaches... they beat is in the Champ in Fairborn and we got them yesterday in a solid 3-2 game... It was our first tourney win this season after 4 runner-ups - all the sweeter in that it was against a class act like the Blaze. See you guys next weekend in Tipp City!

I agree the One Call System is great. ?The internet is a great idea also, but I like One Call Now better because some people don't have access to the internet on the weekend, especially if they're not staying in a hotel or don't own a Blackberry.
