Tryout scheduling question.

When teams have two to four tryouts set up, which tryout leaves the biggest impression? Does a girl want to be at the first tryout and set the bar for the remaining tryouts? Does she want attend the last tryout and leave the freshest example of talent in the coaches memory? Does it matter at all and I'm over-thinking this? I know each girl needs to perform to the best of their ability first and foremost, no matter which they attend. I was just wondering what you all think. Good luck everyone.

It really depends on the teams policy regarding picking up players. Some orgs pick up girls out of their first tryout. Then that leaves you with no spot to try for. Some teams go thru all tryouts before offering positions to anyone. So we look at it this way. Attend the first tryout of the team you want to make the most. We know one team she is trying out for doesnt make any decisions until the last tryout is over. In that case we have a scheduling conflict so intend to go to the second one with that organization.

Having done tryouts many times I would say the situation changes due to the amount of players that show up at tryouts.

When there are lots of girls you better be on you "A" game and stand out in the crowd. If there are loads of girls your reps are limited, and the ones running the tryouts have to filter the girls quickly and get down to a reasonable group to really focus on. If you are not in that group you are not going to be under consideration. But if you are one of the "chosen" expect a call pretty quick, or before you leave the tryout.

If there are fewer girls you are definately going to have a better chance of being seen, thus your opportuities are greater to catch the coaches eyes.

But again with my experiences most teams have the core group of players picked during the first tryout because they don't want to lose out on a player, and you don't know what or if anything better will show up at the other tryouts.

Go Early...Go Hard...Dress To Impress...And Hustle at all Times!!

My advice would be to go earlier vs. later, as it could be perceived as your first choice or a stronger interest, and because some teams make their selections sooner vs. later. Agree with Lady Knights for the most part.

First one... no doubt.....if she isn't offered a spot after the first tryout, you should call and ask if they are interested. If she has a bad tryout, then definitely let them know it was not her best and go back.

With her program breaking up and not fielding an 18U team next year, we are doing our best to be at the right tryout at the right time. With all the teams having tryouts around the same two weekends, it's becoming a bit daunting figuring out where she needs to be. She does have a few favorite teams in mind, but we don't know what they are looking for. Her skill set is the speedy lefty slapper with a solid glove and some teams have what they need there and are looking for big power and pitching (as we all know).

I say go to the first tryout for the team you want to play for the most. If I see someone I really like, I will offer them a spot right there. If you wait until the end and they aren't looking for too many players, you run the risk of the position already being filled.

First one for many reasons:

From the players standpoint, If you have a bad tryout you have the opportunity for a "do-over". You are not being compared to a previous group so your weaknesses may not be so evident. You get to set the bar that others must perform too.

From the coaches standpoint, We do not want to let top talent get away so you will get an offer if you impress. We know what pieces are needed and the sooner you find those pieces the better off you are. I tend to have a ton more energy and interest the first day of tryouts versus the 3rd or 4th day.

It's been my belief that it's best to go to a team's first tryout. So you have the option of going to the same team's subsequent sessions if you think it's needed, or if you really want to be on that team.

It was our experience last year that confirmed to us that it's best to go to the first tryout session. DD's team last year held tryouts in late Aug., and by the time she found out they went in a different direction, teams had completed their tryouts. At the private tryouts we arranged, three of the four coaches told us, almost verbatim, "Why didn't you come to our tryouts, we would have offered you a spot then."

My darn kid still wants to go to the fields for hitting. So since I'll be there,I'll look at players serious about joining the org then?Only serious players inquire.Double edged sword cause some may be just wanting to showcase themselves even when they know where they will be going. If parent brings deposit may result in looking for 1 less player at tryouts? Also helps when teams post what they are looking for?Why waste your time and thiers if positions already filled?

I tend to pick players from the first tryout. They offer me hope they will be there for the team and must be excited about being on our team and not somebody else's.
