TRYOUTS!!! It is extremely important that you know that this is not only tryouts for you for the team, but you should be putting the team and the organization up for your own personal "tryout". See how they operate

Here are some thoughts on tryouts:

1. If you are happy with your playing time, the coaching, the players, and the competitive level of play and if most of the team is coming back, then STAY!!
2. If you are unhappy for any of those reasons listed above, then tryout for other teams
3. I suggest at least 3 tryouts.
4. Tell every team that you will be attending other tryouts and will let them know your choice when you have done all of them
5. Understandably, some teams will pressure you to sign right away. Unless you are totally sure, WAIT!! look at all options.
6. Ask how many pitchers they are carrying. 3 is the best with 2 who pitch most and one who plays a position and then backs the others up. beware of teams that "stockpile" pitchers as you might be sitting a lot.
7. Ask them if they let their pitchers hit
8. Ask them if you can play another position when not pitching
9. Ask them what tournaments they are in. If they aren't sure yet, then be weary especially if you are an elite player. Good teams have their tournament schedules all set to go next year.
10. Ask other players and parents about coaching styles. If they have lots of turnover in players, then beware.
11. Also be aware of "daddy" and "mommy" ball especially if the player is a pitcher. I have seen parents of pitchers who coach and are very fair, but I have also seen horror stories where they are grossly unfair.

Couldn't be more right...it is very hard to be a pitcher, but coaches can make it enjoyable if they allow them to develop their entire game.
