Tryouts this year verse last year

Defintely many things can and in our case WILL be improved in the future. I agree, we hope to post out next year every teams specific needs. We fully intended to have two 16 and two 14u teams this year, but the lack of depth in the pitching dept. prevented it. The whole scene in NWO is spread very then with so many teams competing for the same players. We have been diligently trying to help players get on other organizations tryout list, in fact we placed several today. We agree this isn't an ideal situation, and next year hope to have a very specific tryout format. We are trying to adapt to an ever changing landscape, please offer suggestions and we'll always consider them. We have 3 12u teams because of a lot of pitchers in that age group, and we want to try to develop them.

I don't seem to understand how you can go to a couple of tryouts and see 20 girls for 3-4 spots on a team and then go to a tryout that needs 5 cause of age differances and having to move up and there are only 3-4 girls there.
What is it that makes people think that some teams are so good and then when they don't make it there they don't go anywhere else?

My bet is ADVERTISING... The Big Successful Teams are aggressive. And they also Have Good coaching from Top to bottom (In General) Many smaller teams have Great coaching but dont get the Word out as well... How many they need, Cost details, How many Weekends do you plan to play . I really think some smaller teams worry that if "Too many " come out its going to be a Pain. SO they plan small. Scout a lot , and Give out a lot of personal Invitations. Then of course there is a draw for some to be on the "Other" side of the "Haves" and "Have Nots"... but that usually comes at a cost ($$$...Time)

Freak08, I guess the advertising, but I guess the real question is if there are 3-4 spots open where do the other girls go?

As for the cost being out there, I don't see it being posted anywhere cause I feel that it would scare away more people when you see what some of these bigger organizations charge.

One thing is for sure: There are as many different organizations out there as there are in a box of 64 crayolas. Whatever you're looking for, whether it be a big name org. or a one team start up, you should be able to find a team that fits you and your dd's needs.

When did softball become about men fighting with one another and less about the talented girls who play the game? It's sad really.

We have several girls from our team this year without a place to play, the girls want to stay together but can't. All because of the male ego.

......By the time the season was over, the experience was so bad I'm certain that at least 7 of the 12 girls didn't even come to tryouts, and it may have been as many as 10 of 12....Definately wasn't a good situation.

Seen this happen myself with my DD's team.
It's a shame. Really a shame.
