If you have certified umps, you can't cut it in half for 8U. If they are umping there, they are passing up other games. The cheaper alternative is to train your own teenagers. They can ump for $20 a game and everyone is happy. Remember there is usually a cash discount.

Remember --if you have teenagers do it, they still need to be sanctioned by ASA, USSSA, etc and they must have the concussion training certification.

My daughter is a certified umpire for OGSO (rec). She is a field ump and gets $35 per game. I believe the home plate ump gets $45. She umpires Farm through Class C (5u-15u). Great money for a 14 year old.

I would think one would need to differentiate from umpiring back to back time limit games that are scheduled 1:15-1:30 apart, and a single middle school or rec game that might be played out in full and last 2 hours plus ... big difference ...

No umpires for U8 here in Hancock County. Purely instructional!

I use to umpire when younger and everyone played 7 innings. With this timed **** umpires should not be making 40 or more dollars per game that will end in exactly 1:15 minutes. This needs to be adjusted if its not going to be a 7 inning game and is timed event. (Adjust based on the minutes the game will take and make it a fair hourly rate) Believe me I know its not easy being an umpire and most work hard and do a great job, but they should not be making over 35 bucks an hour for timed game. This might make entry fees come down in price and might mean all these club teams might not have to charge as much to play for that organization.

Maybe we can talk to the gas companies and see if they could drop the price per gallon, talk to ASA about dropping their license fee, to ASA to drop price of the new shirts they are going to require the umpires to purchase, drop the price of joining the local umpire association, etc. It costs the umpire the same to go to a time limit game as it does to a high school game paying $60. Most don't do it for the money, its because we Love the Game! But they are not going to lose money doing it.
