I know that when the Nightmare took on the prospect of playing gold it was with the girls best interest in mind . It was not about wins or losses ,it was about playing the best competition that they could play and getting the girls college exposure. They lost a good pitcher to injury and made due with what they could muster up .I believe that they only won about 25 % of the games that they played in . I think at Stingrays the only loss that they had was against Lasers Aqua. The question is ask them how many girls got scholarships.

I thought about this for 24 hours before articulating my opinion, here it goes...

Who cares? Why does anyone care what another team calls itself? gold, platinum, elite, blah, blah, blah. What kind of self rightuous indignant person cares about it. Too many times we wrap ourselves up in this "softball snob" burrito, filled with loathing and contempt for anyone and everyone who doesn't march to the beat of our drum. We exist in a world of little girls playing a game, who cares about the rest. I say name your team the "Gold Elites", i'll see you on the field, let's play ball.

If you have a good 16u team and can play 16u, stay.
Gold teams from Ohio are not any better than "18u", and the "18u"
get as many college scholarships for softball as Gold teams from Ohio.

18 ASA is where you will find first year college players from now on with the new ruling from ASA about no college rostered player on a Gold team........ The gold teams as you mentioned will probably be less competitive than 18 ASA because of it.

You do not have to stay in Ohio to play Gold........ their are tons of adds from gold teams out of state looking to pick up players.

I will agree with you that you do not need to play at the gold level to attend college, my last post made that point also, the 92 team we played for with the xpress all but one I believe has made the commitment to play college ball and they were not a gold team.

There are tons of 18ASA compared to Gold teams so yes they will receive more college offers....... but im willing to bet if you compare numbers the amount of gold players vs the number of 18ASA the number of college offers will be in the favor of the gold players.........It is what it is. and after attending gold tournies like the fall one in Chattanooga or Orlin Park in Chicago, you have the stingray atmosphere all season long not just one or two weekends........... just some food for thought, there is no right or wrong here, just what level and what commitment you and your dd are willing to make

The summer of 2010 will be an anomaly in ASA 18 Gold, A, & B. We will never see a mixed up summer like this again at 18's.

All 18 ASA as of November will NOT have college players, Gold will revert back after this year to being the Division of play for the Elite Players from the top states.

18 A ASA will be what has always been the best 18u teams in the country, minus the 64 Gold qualifiers and the Gold teams that don't earn a berth and therefore cannot play 18A.

College players if they choose to play during the summer will play either 23u or womens fastpitch.

Not sure if the other orgs will follow the ASA lead, but I know that ASA will correct what they consider was a mistake that they made last November by leaving 18A open to College Players in 2010.
