WOW,

This just cheated a good number of teams out of one of the scheduled touraments. There is no time to find another one. Shame.

This is a black eye for this tournament and USFA. We did not apply for this tournament and now I am glad. I know this, I will warn people about this if they show up on the tournament list for 2009.

Before we pass judgment too quickly, the tournament is titled the "Great Black Swamp Classic". It could be that the fields don't shed water very well.

Those fields hold water fine, that is a very strange.

The Great Black Swamp, or simply Black Swamp, was a glacially-caused wetland in northwest Ohio, United States, extending into extreme northeastern Indiana, that existed from the end of the Wisconsin glaciation until the late 19th century. It comprised extensive swamps and marshes, with some higher, drier ground interspersed, and occupied what was formerly the southwestern part of Glacial Lake Maumee, a holocene precursor to Lake Erie. It was gradually drained and settled in the second half of the 19th century and is now highly productive farm land.

That is were black swamp comes from. :)

I hope they get a 100% refund. That would really be a blackeye to take a cut and not even try.

Cowboys,

It's Sat. a.m. in NWO and the sun is overwhelming! With the wind, I'm sure the pollen count would be unbearable on the fields.

Seriously, I can't believe they would cancel a tournament based on that or any forecast. I'd think twice before attempting to schedule anything at Carter Park again.

Carter Park is run by the City of Bowling Green Parks and Rec Dept. The real reason this tournament was canceled is because the diamonds were just not ready. But I have no doubt that they will be playing on the fields Sunday for the slow pitch beer leagues. Girls fastpitch softball is not a priority here in B.G. The privately run hardball facility just to the south of the softball complex is playing right now. B.G. Parks and Rec Dept. is pretty much useless. I can see it will be a long time before anyone wants to play a tournament here again.

If that is the only t-ment sanction with USFA will they return the sanction fee???
Is it about the kids or the money.

It is the BG Rec. Dept. problem, not USFA. The city budget does not allow much field help. In the fall of the year, they have one or two guys to cover all of the parks in BG. I have used the parks before and got rained out.
It would be interesting to see how USFA handles this since they are trying to make a mark in NWO.

I can still take 10U and 12U at the Rizing Starz tournament, ASA National Qualfier on May 30-June1 but I need to know now. Contact me at fast2home@yahoo.com if interested. These will be at Rolf Park in Maumee.

Sounds like BG Rec fields should not and should not have been considered for any tournaments.
