USSSA Tournament USSSA Fall tournament research

I am curious if some of the teams could give some input on this subject: Are teams more interested in a Saturday or Sunday one-day only format for the early fall (Sept 1 to October 5) tournaments?

I have some teams contacting me for an event on October 4, but everyone is playing the "wait and see" card right now which could potentialy chase off other interested teams. Do you think revising the format to have a one day 4-5 game max event is a better way to go? Maybe 3-4 pool games and a one game playoff for the title?

In regards to the USSSA Fall State, do you think it is too early to have one (September 12-13) and it might do better say October 17-18 or 24-25?

Thanks for your insight in this as I am trying to gather info to better serve our customers: the girls!

We wanted to play in the USSSA oct 3-4 tournament at berliner. There are to many conflicts with fall-ball and s o c c e r. So we are looking for tourneys toward the later part of oct. Plus if you noticed there are a lot of teams that still do not have there teams filled yet. When they do fill, they will not have a lot of time to get uniforms and team related items for tourneys early in september. Let alone any practice time for new teams. We just had our first practice this week. I think you would do better oct 17-18.

Mike,

October would be preferable, because many teams are just filling rosters, and haven't practiced yet. As for format, I much prefer a one-day tournament in the fall. If we found a tournament with 3-4 pool games and a championship, we'd definitely be for it. With other sports in the fall, it's just easier to get eveyone together for one day. Plus, nationals are a fresh memory, and parents are trying to not pay for another couple night hotel stay in the fall for softball.

Mike,

I sent you a message last night, a one day tournament sounds good to me. Only problem we might have is we host our own tournament oct 10- 12. Would have to check with the head coach, and parents. But my vote is for oct 17-18

Why do we need to play so many tournaments? Why not more 1 day friendlies? It really helps avoid all the conflicts and saves a lot of money? No hotel costs.

Agree! Very effective and affordable use of time. Curious why more coaches don't collaborate on this?

Saturday is always a problem due to other sports commitments. It may be less likely in the older groups, but it only takes a few to lock a team out.

Sundays are hardly ever sports days - so a one-day there is better.

I would agree that the "friendly" format has some potential. Give me 4 games over a long day against three other matched teams and that is very productive.

The problem at Berliner is the big Showcase tournament. I do not think the CRPD would let two different sanctions in the same complex, but I will check.

I just sent an e-mail to CRPD to see if they can accommodate us for a Sunday only event on October 18 starting at 8:30 AM.

I know this goes against the previous announced date, but if we can still salvage a mini-qualifier out of this..........

I will wait for their response and work on possible scheduling and format tonight along with returning phone calls that have came in over the weekend.

CRPD has said no, they have a showcase event there that weekend. This limits me on what I can do as I do not have any other locations to host this at close by.

Anyone have any suggestions?

for us it comes down to finances. I'm for the friendlies and low cost approach to gettin' some games in with the new team in the Fall. We are only doing 2 low cost tournaments and lots of practice time. Local works for us or within an hour or so. We will scrimmage quiet a bit if the opportunity arises.

If I get into a larger fall tournament, sure, 3 game pool play, and double elimination and might as well be Saturday and Sunday to get my monies worth.

Pickerington North is booked for the Lasers White tournament on that weekend.

I think in the future I will look into doing the one day format with Sunday being a rain date. Also planning on being later into October, with the Fall State being the only large two-day tournament because of it's state status.

Pickerington North and Central? Beavercreek?
