W.W.A.S.T. charity team update at Y-Town Mayhem tourney results!

The Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball Team or WWAST charity team finally got on the dirt and played together for the first time last night in a scrimmage against a very good Thunder Elite Blue squad at the Youngstown Mayhem tournament. We had 13 to start out of 18 that will be shuffling through this weekend as their schedules allow.

Great time, alot of smiles from new faces and new friends. Girls meshed very well, enthusiastically playing anywhere they were asked, huge smiles, huge hussle, cheering each other on, intent on the game and playing very hard. Already seeing some great softball, couple nice shots, strong pitching, aggressive on the bases, we even pulled off a beautiful suicide squeeze for a run. We are coaching aggressively and want the ladies to play fast and fearless, and to just leave it all out there.

We are very proud to coach these ladies this weekend and hope they will take something positive from the weekend and maybe learn something about the game and themselves along the way, we coaches already have.

Make no mistake people, these ladies came to make a statement and win some ball games for the Red White and Blue this weekend, lol.

We play at 9am, 12:30 and 4:30 today, come down and cheer the ladies on!

Great job team, went 2-0-1 in pool play 30-8 runs scored vs given up and all together there were 18 kids all played significant playing time across the games with 12 batting.

Very very proud of how they came together without a practice and have bonded so quickly, good stuff!

Lookin good in the Red White and Blue! Some quality kids right there, very entertaining bunch, unless your the other teams this weekend, lol. Looking to be in the championship game today.

We play at 10:30 vs Lightning Gold, go get them Red White and Blue, hope to have a long day. Go Warriors!

Wow, what a great softball weekend experience!

The W.W.A.S.T team won the Y-town Mayhem tourney going 6-0-1, scoring 61 runs to 19 surrendered.

Battled a very good Emeralds team 4-4 and 3-2 in the final!

Our first round elimination game was against Ohio Lightning Gold and was the best softball game we ever witnessed, let alone competed in. Went 3 innings of ITB with both teams trading leads and ties, we left 17 players on the bases, there were several double playes, great outfield plays, alittle bit of everything, just an unbelievable game. By the time it was done a rather large crowd had gathered to watch the girls, good stuff!

Hats off to all the teams and young ladies from all. Special thanks to Lightning Gold and Emeralds for some epic softball, thats the type of games we play for.

Thanks to Jeff Steiner for alowing us to play in the tourney, hopefully we can do it again next year and defend our championship, lol.
