I was at Berliner Park all day Saturday & Sunday. On Saturday I was there as the coach of Ohio Glory '01 for the tournament. On Sunday I was there in a different capacity. I must say that Saturday had the worst conditions I have probably ever seen for a girls softball tournament. It was cold, raining, windy & just overall miserable. I have no idea how the girls were able to hold onto the ball when pitching or even throwing the ball in general.
We were all fighting the rain, some muddy fields, and the fact that Columbus Parks & Rec wouldn't allow this tournament to continue past 6:15 so that an ADULT tournament could be played. This last fact is absolutely ridiculous that the adults wouldn't just wait 30 minutes so that the kids could finish their tourney.
Well Mike Craig, the TD, Don McDaniel the UIC and the rest of the staff did the best they could in those conditions , to try to salvage what they could of this tourney. So, before you go bashing Mike Craig or the NSA for the way this ended on Saturday, be aware that it was the City of Columbus Parks & Rec Department that forced Mike Craig's play. The fact is...Mike was more upset about the rushing of the end of this tournament than anybody else, including all of the players.

But, all is well that ends well. Sunday was a little windy & cold, but spectators were given a delight today in the 16U & 18U divisions. Fantastic games all day today, as well as Saturday.

Congratulations to all of the winners, and great job umpires.
