Absolutely! Her name is Onesti ("honesty") Evans, she just turned 15 in June, and she has been playing fastpitch since she was 9 years old. She played t-ball, and coach-pitch baseball before that since age 4.
Her first year in rec fastpitch, she wanted to learn how to pitch (we had been watching college softball for a while before that; she would go through the house doing the fastpitch pitching motion, but no real exposure to it until then!)
Other girls on her rec team had played for our local travel team a year or two before that, but, after some instruction, she was the starting pitcher for the rec team, and they were co-champs that year!
Anyway, Onesti wants me to tell you she is a 1st baseman that can pitch, but Pitcher has been her main position.
In her freshman year at high school, their JV team played very well together, but the head varsity coach wanted her on Varsity. Well, she went up for a few games. He would not let her hit, and she is a very good hitter, so this is the reason she wants to be known for more than her pitching. The biggest problem was the other players on Varsity were absolutely horrible to the underclassmen. Something very derogatory was said about Onesti and her catcher friend, who was a sophomore, so we went with her to go to the coach about it, lots of drama insued, and she decided it was best that she go back to JV. She would at least get to pitch, play, and hit there, and the JV team gelled well together.
Her travel experience has been a bit hit-and-miss. She played for the Court House Cougars her first and second travel summers, learned a little, but the coaching was lacking, and too much favoritism.
Third year she tried out and made the Cap City Force with Toby Fischer as coach, but that ended up not happening, unfortunately, for financial reasons. That summer, she subbed for 6 or 7 different teams, which she loved, and she made many new friends doing that, whom she still stays in contact with today.
Last summer, she was with the 14U Chillicothe Lady Generals. They only played 4 tournaments, largely because of the pandemic, but they went 2-13 in the games they played, and the 2 games they won, were actually pitched by Onesti. They had about 6 pitchers (3 of them were the coaches' daughters), and it was a bit of a disappointment - they seemed to run it like a rec team, changing people around every inning, and I don't think you can get any girl comfortable or them get confident in any spot on the field if you do that.
This summer the GC Vipers was a great fit, they went about .500 in 6 tournaments, got better each tourney weekend, and it was a really fun summer for her; lots of friends made, lots of softball games, 2 over the fence homeruns (she has a total of 4), and she is very ambitious and driven to play softball in college! We are so hoping and praying to find her a team to be a part of until she makes that jump to college.
Hope I've not talked your ear off...just now saw that you sent me your phone #...lol
Thanks for your time, let me know what you think and what you're looking for...
Sincerely,
