Now that coaches are unable to contact payers until the fall of their Junior year, what age will coaches be watching these girls at the showcase events? My DD will be first year 14U next season. Do college coaches pay attention to that age level? Looks like we will be playing at Scenic City and Atlanta Legacy (Veterans Tribute) in November. How are parents supposed to know what showcases are legit and which ones aren't?
Thanks~
There are a lot of good minds and experience on this site...14U is the time to start getting noticed especially if the goal is larger DII or above schools where they recruit out a couple years.
While the college coaches may not be able to have direct contact at your DDs age if, you are on the right showcase team your coach can most defiantly put out feelers for interest level . (Same with your HS coach). Camps/ Clinics and just campus visits can get and show your DDs interest in a school as well.
As far as what is a good or bad showcase for a player... that is decided by the the level of play/college the player is looking to get looks from, teams/talent entered, and, College coach interest. Your coach should be looking at past tournament teams and coaches in attendance to see if it is a match. The coach should have an idea of who in their team has colleges interested in them and who those colleges are to help forecast event success and future events.
Most of your bigger school D1 talent tends to play in more national exposure events. EX: in Ohio it would be Stingrays. Other Ohio showcases: Lasers, GAPSS, Recruit fest, Best of the Best even the ASA Ohio State tournaments bring in college coaches and are good options for more regional and smaller colleges/universities and from my experience (this is where most of the ladies end up). Your end of season National can also provide showcase opportunities if it is a higher level event.
Naturally; there are other parent/player factors to consider with recruiting and choosing schools and the tournaments they attend. In some cases college showcase schedules are not even needed.
