NSA What can the NSA do to regain it's footing in Ohio?

That's what I said too Bear. Too many age groups all in one location and no room for rain, etc... It happened back to back years.

If you are a TD, you must think about rain when you schedule the game times...if you are lucky... a month out of the date. You have to prepare for rain... and being a three day tournament in Ohio....likely you will get it somewhere in those three days.

I like NSA personally.. Saw some great tournaments in NSA. Many used NSA Worlds as a tune up for other association's national events.

I just think even the fees to Td's is tough. UIC fees for a non working umpire plus his two night stay at a motel for watching over 4 diamonds and two age groups is a little out there in my opinion. I don't mind giving him and extra $100 or $125 for being the UIC.. if he works as well..

And we appreciate all of the constructive comments like the Bears. As for the others I guess you must be bored as you offered no solution or suggestions to even examine or suggest to the higher ups, but instead bashing.

Again thanks to folks like Jean May for offering solutions.

These bored others are the folks you are trying to get to come back to NSA, this is a two way street as far as bashing goes. I guess I don't know how to be constructive about OSP, due a search and compare positive to negatives and see for yourself. I've been there it is NOT a fastpitch facilities, why would NSA not give the girls the best possible facilities to represent NSA?

Really? I ask for constuctive criticism and get posts referring to N$A and "all about the money". Yeah that is real constructive and offers suggestions.

Have you approached John Deluca regarding OSP? Bill Horton? Hugh Cantrell? That is the order of succession in the NSA heirarchy. Maybe if someone higher up the chain above John was made aware of the "problems" with OSP, there might be some inquiry into why they keep getting the states. One thing that I can tell you is the NSA is loyal to complexes that are loyal to them. If OSP is the only complex sanctioning teams and running NSA events in that part of Cleveland, then guess who is going to get offered the "plums".

Sometimes guys there is more to this than calling a park dept and booking fields. You take care of the folks who take care of you first. Have any of you contacted John or Bill to inquire why certain other facilities are not getting these tournaments?

Just out of curiosity, what fastpitch facilities do you suggest for hosting the NSA states? Keep in mind that they should be hosting some NSA events during the season.

Mike

I didn't say anything about the money and as far as asking John Deluca, Bill Horton or Hugh Cantrell you asked the question not them so it's in your park. Maple Leaf and Elyria Summer Kickoff are both close to Cleveland and it doesn't matter a lot, if people hate a facilities and your trying to grow don't see how you think that is going to work out for you but good luck. You asked for advise and I gave it, it's no skin off my back if you succeed or fail, I just know your chances of failure are greater at OSP than other venues JMHO.

"Have you approached John Deluca regarding OSP? Bill Horton? Hugh Cantrell?" If this is the order of succession in the NSA hierarchy shouldn't they know what is going on at OSP if they are allowing OSP to host such a big event as the NSA States.. I mean would it be too much to ask, considering OSP is hosting so many NSA events, that these 3 people show up once in awhile to see how things are going and if everything is meeting the NSA STANDARDS...

Most of the time it’s the little things that make the biggest impression on people and their teams. One thing that made me think twice about NSA is the 4 gg that is nothing but a lie, if one pitch is pitched it is considered a game played and if one game is played then there is no refunds. Please explain how this can be made to make me want to trust NSA. This little thing says allot about an Organization i.e. money, lack of caring, no effort will be made, and we don’t care about you the team, fans or the players....

Just my 2 cents

On a side note we have been forced to play our CYO games at this god awful park. Nothing has changed except they finished the the new drive way, cut the parking lot down by 30%, only have 4 porta johns, But they did install all the new S****R Fields and put lights on the big field.... way to go OSP they are still ontop of things....

You made your bed not you have to sleep in it but here is a CONSTRUCTIVE suggestion. Picking fights will not help you win anyone over. If many think that NSA is all about the money, THAT IS something you need to know and need to address. Welcome them letting you know so you know what you need to fix. To take the job and to post this thread you knew you would needed to have thick skin. Instead of responding with "Really? I ask for constuctive criticism and get posts referring to N$A and "all about the money". Yeah that is real constructive and offers suggestions." just say THANK YOU and let it go. Just a suggestion.

It will be six to eight or more years before NSA comes back the way it was in the state if it does at all. The existing crop of coaches and parents who were burned, will have had to finish playing and the new generation of kids playing is how I see it turning out. heck, there are even new softball sanctioning orgs out there which shrinks NSA option even more....

Consumer has the final purchase power. Fool me once ok, fool me twice I'm still a fool, fool me three times I'm done forever.

And NSA is going to have to cater to this new crop to get them to pick NSA over the others. ASA is the major league and where the best go. NSA and the others are the minors and have to compete against each other for the minor league business. P&G isn't going to sell Tide by requiring you buy Oil of Olay Lotion in order to buy the Tide. Most will pass on the Tide and buy another detergent. NSA has to remove the state requirement. They need to pick park venues based on what the teams want and not what brings the most profit. In other words, satisfy the customer. Marketing 101, find the need, fill the need. Don't try and force an Edsel down the throat of consumers that don't want an Edsel.

Sounds like everyone is telling you what needs to be done

1) Get rid of state requirement

2) Lose high dollar fee's for td's $40 per team and $200 to UIC's that don't do there jobs

3) Stop having states at beer league parks. (softball world/osp) and Yes john and others have been told but don't seem to care.

4) Get back to people promptly

Thanks for the input.

State requirements are a by-law change that is put to a vote at the convention. Like I have stated in previous postings, I am working on a proposal to take to the convention in regards to the state requirement issue. Does this mean it will get changed, no idea as that is up to the executive board of the NSA.

I have no control over what John charges directors. UIC's are mandatory for fast-pitch events. Again I have no say over what John charges for those folks either. My structure is different for the tournaments in southern Ohio.

States for 2010 were already placed when I was offered the position. I will be taking bids and stopping by parks for the age groups that I have to place in 2011. I can only vouch for myself, but I try to return calls or e-mails as soon as reasonably possible.

Again thanks for the input folks.

Mike That is exactly what is needed, More people like you that want to get off their but and make sure things are going the way they know will make things great for the teams and the girls..You need to get envolved more with NSA to kick out the dinosaurs and to get things changed to the modern era..Yes it will not be easy and its a mountain to climb but it is what needs to be done to bring down the dinosaurs way of thinking and running of NSA

PS. dinosaur - refers to people that have been doing something for so long that they do not want change and feel if it has worked for the last 30yrs it can work for the next 30yrs

Thanks for the input folks. I try to do what I can. I do appreciate even the feedback that Mustang gave. Your right it doesn't benefit anyone to go around picking fights. Even the Quakerman makes good points (once in awhile) LOL! ;)

I understand that the big blue is the "big dawg" in the fastpitch world. They do a lot of things correctly for all involved. I am going to continue to work on the things that can make us improve our total product that I can influence which is the events and directors/umpires who work in my side of the state. I am adding good people weekly and hoping that the quality approach works over the quantity approach.

I just hope that we can improve our product to get folks to consider us when they are looking to add to there schedules in the future.

Feel free to PM, call, or e-mail if you have hints or even if you have a complaint. If you think that you might want to get involved, then I would be glad to hear from you as well so we can start the planning for 2011.

Thanks. I'll take that. We do have one thing in common, Mike. WE BOTH like NSA ..... if they change.

And for all of you that think NSA is full of dinosaurs...LOL.. you should have been at the umpires clinic ASA had in Massillon awhile back. They introduced the District people to the crowd of umpires..

Good 'Ole Boys Club took on a whole new meaning for me that day.
