What has become of Worthington Heat/Buckeye Heat?!

I'm a little behind on new programs. Years back, I always had some of the best competition with these programs. Are they still around? I remember Mardee and the wonderful job she did. Those programs always had great players and great coaches. The 3 programs I coached for have all died....Springfield Thunder, Ohio Danger, and S.O. Cyclones.

To quote Jake Taylor from Major League when asked if the Indians still had a team in Cleveland: "Yup, we've got uniforms and everything, its really great" lol

I hope so or it's going to be lonely at practice Tues-Wed. Mardee is one of my dd's coaches. Jim Clark was her first with the Heat. He is retired in FL. After 5 years this is our last year. I feel your pain. We went thru the same thing when she started at 9, each year a new team. That game in Ky was one of game I will never forget.

Ted has retired from the game. He might come and help me for our camps this summer, though. Buckeye Heat still around, just watched several of their teams today. Oddly for me, while I know the coaches, I know pretty much none of the girls. I was just thinking tonight here in Dayton that the Heat has been around for 14 years now. Wittsoftball, you are one of the few left who remembers that we started as the Worthington Heat. The beginning was in 1998 when we took a 16-U Worthington all-star team to a Reynoldsburg tournament and finished second to a good Heart of Ohio team. We figured, let's have this team for 1999 and so we did and did fairly well. Things just went from there until we re-named it Buckeye Heat I think in 2004. A guy by the name of Doug Price who lives in Worthington gets credit for the name. I still find myself rooting for the teams on the inside when I'm watching the games.

I remember the "Worthington" Heat well. DD's team had many memorable match-ups with them. She even guested as a pitcher a couple years for trips to Kansas with Brad Ristas' team. Now there's a guy who knows his way around fastpitch!

Joe, what was the team called that you took to sherwood/fairview back in the day. I think the ages were around 12u or 14u

Hitinropes, wow, you remember that? I believe that was like 1998 or 1999, which would have been the start of the Heat. We just had white and blue uniforms with Worthington on them. As I recall, we came in second and it was 14u, maybe even 16u. I've always remembered that tournament for a couple of reasons. One, I acted like a jerk when a call or calls didn't go our way. It was over the top and I have calmed down considerably in the last 15 years (although not completely). I think the umpires were probably volunteers from the softball community, which made my arguing that much more ridiculous. And two, I remember we played a team that I think was entirely from Sherwood and they were really good. Just excellent hitters and a really scrappy team. I don't remember whether they won the tournament or we beat them in the semifinals or what it was.

A parent on that team e-mailed me this pic. This picture is roughly the same team that was up at Fairview, although it's probably a year or two later. The white unis were extremely rare back at the time and, as the parent noted, they were sweet!

Chris Hoiles Motorsports played you guys in the finals. I have pictures from that game, but you couldn't read what you guys were called. That's when I first met up with you. We were both young and vocal in those days. LOL.

Joe I can't imagine you being over the top? I do remember a trip to Disney with a Dublin Coffman team when you threw your hat on top of the dugout! That was great... I am sure you have calmed down some over the years I know I have too... Sorry I missed you last weekend in Dayton!

Haha, that was actually funny. I tossed my cap and it wound up on top of the dugout. Now, I have less hair and need to keep my cap on. As I and you will recall, it was probably much more than one call that had me upset on that Disney trip.
