Wiki list the average to 220 for Womens softball to ALL fields . I dont think thats correct , any way to prove or disprove my opinion? I see tons of parks that are 195 , 200 or even 190 down the lines, maybe deeper in CF , I think Wiki has this wrong .. ? MD

Unless one school has a fence at 5,000 and that is messing up the averages, then there is no way that 220 is the average. That might be the average to CF, but I doubt even that. I'd guess it's 195 to LF and RF and 210 or 215 to CF.

Most fences we have seen this season is 185 to 200 in the corners. Valpo has the longest yard at 210 corner and 225 center in the conference. I used to have a ton of respect for teams like ASU that played the long ball until I saw their fences, now I know why....190 down the line and 210 center. When we come home to play it feels like a men,s slow pitch field. Theres so much out field for the gap shots to rattle around in.

I do remember being told that the UK field is 185 corner.

Most fields we played at were 190 at the corners and 200-210 in center. I only remember a couple that were much longer than that. 220 for the average.....I don't think so.

I wonder what fields they were considering? If they included slowpitch fields where fastpitch is occasionally played, that would get the overall average out there. Maybe Men's fields were considered. In Ohio, I agree with those above for normal field sizes. Although I have traveled, I can't say what other states offer in size.

Wiki may need updated. If memory serves me, the sanctions don't recommend those kind of numbers except at the college and olympic level for women.

Gold fences were set at 225 center. always seemed to me that D1 should be equal to or greater than those

The NCAA recommends an outfield fence of not more than 235'. If you use a 6' fence then the minimum recommended would be 190' down the lines and 220' to center. If a 4' fence is used then 210' down the lines and 230' to center. These are recommendations and NOT requirements.

When my dd was visiting schools we always checked out the field and found very few over 200'. These would be all classifications except high D1. Most hovered around this 200' mark. Think about it. If this was your home field... you would not put the fence out of reach.
