It has been a few months since we have posted an update. With our Racers game being next week, we wanted to update everyone on what we have been doing this spring so you know what you are supporting when you support Stay in Softball.

Equipment Drives: This spring we held two used equipment drives. We collected over 50 pieces of equipment including bats, gloves, catching equipment and facemasks.

Clinics: This spring we sponsored three open clinics, one clinic for a high school team and 4 closed clinics for the Boys and Girls Club of Cleveland. We were lucky enough to have Bob Hoiles lead two of those clinics, doing amazing things with the girls in just two hours. We also had the four current Akron Racers: Sherrie Robinson, Alison Owen, Sam Fischer and Ashley Thomas come out and lead two of the clinics for the Boys and Girls Club of Cleveland and the Cleveland Tri League. The players were so great with the girls! Even though we got poured on the second day, they were able to bring the clinic inside and still teach the girls and their coaches a lot. The players also talked to the girls about how to be a good teammate and how to set goals and practice with a purpose. We have a lot of pictures and videos of the clinics on our Facebook site and will post them here too.

We are holding a clinic next month in Warren as well. We also continue to support our pitching program that helps girls with free small group pitching lessons (if they continue to practice and attend the lessons).

Equipment Donations: We supplied 7 teams from the Boys and Girls Club of Cleveland and the Tri League with bats, gloves, masks, helmets, catching equipment and some cleats (if we had the size) for every player who needed them. This was a huge undertaking and took two days (plus another trip a 3rd day) to do with the amount of girls and equipment needed. We gave almost 150 pieces of equipment out. While the Boys and Girls Club receives equipment donations from the Cleveland Indians, they are kept by the teams and then returned to the Indians at the end of the season so the girls have no way to practice on their own if they do not have their own equipment. Now every girl has their own equipment as well as facemasks to keep them safe.

We were also able to provide the ST. Martin de Porres high school softball team with a bag of facemasks. When our HS team played them at a home game, they did not have masks on, so we asked why and were told that they did not have any. So we were able to run to the SIS storage unit and get a bag of masks and bring them back to the field.

We also continue to receive requests for equipment donations from individuals- especially new catchers- and send the equipment out or meet the parents as tournaments if we are able.

Help with softball expenses: This spring we have also helped several girls in need with softball expenses. One player was returning to play after undergoing brain surgery; one player's mother has cancer and it is causing a financial hardship and another player's father was seriously injured and is out of work. We have helped girls in all levels of softball (local and travel) with softball related expenses.

Please continue to support Stay in Softball by spreading the word about us, following our Facebook page or just showing your support by reading and giving us a thumbs up on our posts here.

We continue to be grateful to Mr. Moorehead and Mr. Baker for their continued support for Stay in Softball, letting us use the forum to advertise and for helping promote the Racers game by hosting a tailgate and broadcasting the game.

What a Great program!!

The girls work VERY hard on it and put a lot of time and love into it. They are always looking for new girls to help too- it doesn't matter what part of the state you live in.
