Why more U16's

I have noticed in the Ohio Players Looking for a Team area, that there seems to be more U16's looking than U14's, 12's etc.
With my DD moving up to the U16 age bracket next year, should we be prepared for a more competitive process? fewer teams to be on? more girls playing up?
Just wondering what theories are out there.

Nothing new...

As the girls get older there is a drop off in participation as other interest start to develop 15 and up.

There are less 16/18U teams than the younger age groups but, still too many teams to fill completely with age specific players.

The past two years I have seen a lot of 16 and 18U teams with 12U and 14U players on them to fill their roster.
Most are siblings that in my opinion are getting cheated out of playing in their age group in a position where they may see some success.

Agree with Coachdennis, there aren't a shortage of teams....more like a shortage of players. I've seen a ton of girls playing up to fill the rosters, much to the players detriment.

I know a good number of players 16u that were good players that have for most part money reasons moved on. Parents hit hard times and a good number are trying the work force. Sad but true. I have to give alot of credit to those parents who make sure their kids are still playing and have the great opportunity to play. Sign of the times last year there was a thread that this may happen.
Wash DC has no bail outs for fastpitch kids.

High Five to all who keep their kids playing!!!!

I agree that there a lot of teams and fewer girls that age who can or will make the commitment needed.
