14u ASA/USA

@SoCal Dad - thanks for the correction on 14U. I missed that.

I agree on the similar costs traveling to Sioux Falls. Guess my thought still is that some eastern teams may skip both due to costs. Others may have to pick one. How many teams can/will do the west coast swing and hit both if the dates line up?

If the budget dictates having to pick one or the other, it might be difficult to choose Souix Falls. Also, if the dates work, it will be interesting to see how many of the top SoCal teams will do both ASA and PGF at 14U. I'd suspect a pretty high number will do both. I believe that was the case in 2010 when they fell on different dates for 14's & 16's.

Unfortunately, it appears 16U will still conflict for 2012 and teams will have to choose between ASA's in Montgomery, AL or PGF in Huntington Beach, CA. I think it's safe to say that 2012 16U ASA's will take a major hit in the level of talent there like 14U & 16U did this year.

Sue Falls ? . thats a terrible destination ASA better wake up.

Never seen their facilities but why is this terrible. the cooler temps will help the northern teams. You got to admit playing down in the south with the high temps of 100+ is a big shock to the players from northern states, add to that playing several games a day equals not doing very well in overall performance for the northern teams.

It will be interesting to see what the top Cal teams do if PGF puts 14u with 12u. It will be very difficult to do both because of the long travel time and having to check in on Sunday. Another impediment is the top teams can't play up in the highly desirable Champions Cup if they are registered in ASA as 14u.

BTW, PGF didn't have 14u in 2010, so all the top Cal teams went to Moline and swept the top 5 spots. A number of the top 16u teams did do both.

Just seems like it's in the middle of no where. I don't know many families who would voluntarily choose to spend time in Sioux Falls in August. I like the heat , so going south to Ala or Ga is better to me.

Sioux Falls was not cool when we were at 16U ASA in 2009. There was not much of anything to do besides play or practice so we practiced almost every day. It was hot and humid and we had a rain delay that backed things up. The fields were very nice. The organization of the drawing was horrible, it was 4 plus hours in a very hot and uncomfortable gymnasium. To top it off Hotels are at a premium, Holiday Inn Express was about $179 per night. At PGF we paid $105 with a nice breakfast for $105 per night and had plenty to do on days that we had a lot of off time. The weather was nearly perfect for softball(mid to upper 70's).

I actually did not think it was any better than College Staion. May have been more to do in College Staion believe it or not.

Maybe they were from a really small town. I thought the highlight was the sporting goods store, it was huge. Glad it is not an option for us this year. Montgomery or Huntington Beach?

Trip, Apparently the coaching staffs from Georgia, Oklahoma, Kentucky, Louisville and Central Florida don't agree with your assessment. These are just the coaches I saw on the first day of pool play. I'm sure there were more coaches at PFG, but this is a sign that the big programs must still believe the competition at ASA is top notch and that the talent level is sufficient to warrant a trip to lovely, beautiful, 105 degree, Midland, TX. Lord knows they weren't there on vacation.

I agree with you.. More players to recruit at ASA. My statement was about competing for national championship.. No Slight on the huge amount of recruitable talent. Just that it's hard to say you competed for a National Championship when the best aren' there.

It's a shame the money gets in the way of girls competing for a true National Championship.
