amazing how it is suppose to be a blind draw and they somehow manage to pad the home team. all the alleged better teams seem to be placed on one side of the bracket, hmmmmm so much for a blind draw... well if you want to be the best why not play the best...to all the teams that were screwed on that side of the bracket kick some @$% and win the whole thing..........

You are so true on this. Looking over the bracket they set the home teams up like you wouldnt believe. I guess the older home team cant win if the have to play good teams. All the "teams to beat" were forced to play in the lower bracket against each other while the home team get to skate through. ASA should really look at this. Pretty bad teams like the Vipers and Stingrays have to play each other while other get a "a walk in the park".

That seems to be the talk of the tourney going around. Seriously if I was a hosting team and both got "buys" and had a pretty good bracket to be in; I would say throw my number back in...that looks too fishy. Maybe they are overlooking the fundraising part for the organization verses they need to win it; from the way it sounds not many will return; that's too bad. Fortunately we played well today and won all three; I have to say I do not like the umps on field 2; seems like they just want their $30 and go to the next game (we had them twice). i feel we have played some competitive teams thus far and I am glad we are; it is preparing us for nationals. It is a good tourney....good teams...nice atmosphere for playing ball. But I do not understand going 3 and 0 and having a game at 7:45?? we are not a morning team :(. I forget who we play, but I'm just nervous becasue of that.

with a weather mess like this you will never keep everyone happy. I saw the stingrays games and they were not exactly challenged. I won't name teams but how about there first game 11-1 win. They didn't belong there with them.
In the end you have to beat everyone so let it play out.

I also met the CO vipers and they were very nice and were not complaining. They had a lead against the ice and could have won. Nice people. Great girls. Great parents.

It's people like you complaining that tarnish the game.

someone who was present from the ASA who was at the draw should publically explain, preferably several someone's. Last thing we need is worrying about draws in a national qualifier . MD

Coaches should have been allowed to attend the draw - were they?

We have blind draws for our SoCal State Championships 1-1/2 weeks in advance (no pool games) and they are always well attended.

Didn't even know about it. Was only 5 minutes away from the main complex and was wondering what was going on anyway. I don't have any reason to believe something was done inappropriately, but the bottom bracket did seem a little top-heavy. No offense to any other teams. Our run through the bracket - Classics, Lasers, Outlaws, Wizards, Wolfpack.

It really doesn't matter, you still have to beat the best to win. I wouldn't think an organization would intentionally stack a bracket knowing the grief they would take.
Great job to all the teams in this tournament!!

You don't have to beat the best to qualify for a berth.

Blind draws result in uneven distributions of teams far more often than not. Smart organizations make sure their draws are attended by others to witness it was done right.

I know the ASA director was not at the draw. Anyhow we had a great time; but I did lose something and hope someone can help me find them.

Saturday I had a team that was playing well and somewhere between Saturday night and Sunday morning I lost them; they looked like my team, but someone did the old switcherino on me. If anyone turned them in please notify me. :)

14U Teams:

I appreciate all the feedback….especially the negative stuff. No one will ever be happy unless we just hand them the state championship without even playing a game. Finch, 21K, TnTs Dad, maybe in the future you can try and run an event of this caliber. You guys have no clue……

I was present at Candlelite Knolls almost the entire event, and many hours before and after all the teams had gone home. It always amazes me that no one has the courage to speak to the TD during the event, but can hide behind posting on OFC. You all know who I am…..Greg Bensing (330-307-9315), would it be so difficult to stop by or call me?

We acted “ALWAYS” at the direction of the ASA State Commissioner and had to wait until he set direction due to the terrible weather on Thursday and all day on Friday. We personally called every coach and let them know what the direction was for Saturday’s play (being the blind draw) that was set by ASA, and not “one” coach asked where are you conducting the draw and can we be present. Let me repeat the last statement…..not one of the 37 teams.

Also we had two fields playable at 5:00 p.m. on Friday for pool play, and I informed all the managers at Candleite Knolls that we could play all night to get each team one pool play game. The consensus was to cancel pool play, so we informed everyone that we would do a blind draw at the direction from ASA. Again, no one came up to me and asked to be present.

Also, just for the record……no team received a bye. There weren’t any, only five play in games. Maybe some people need to understand what a bye is.

Were there some weaker teams…..sure, could I pick the top five teams…..no way!!!! There was GREAT softball played this weekend, and I can personally tell you that two teams I watched that I would have put money on to win it did not make it to the loser’s bracket championship. Neither was a Valley Extreme team….

To say I gave preferential treatment to the Valley Extreme teams is ridicules That is why I made the Valley Extreme-Red play at 11:00 p.m. on Saturday night, and yelled at the Valley Extreme Blue manager to get his team off the field prior to the Cincy Doom game on Sunday. You guys that post negative statements on OFC need to really get a life, or at a minimum find another sport that you can be successful at……

In closing I want to wish all teams that participated in this year’s event great success for the remainder of the season, and I hope all of your team goals are met!

Take Care
Greg Bensing

Greg,

I agree that if there were complaints to be made they should have been made to you in person over the weekend. But just so we're being factually correct, we did not receive a call telling us there would be a blind draw. We only received a call once the draw was complete to tell us about our game schedule.

Thanks for the effort in any case.

Greg, from the people of Southern Ohio ... I heard first hand the great job your org did putting on the "show".

This rain has been challenging for everyone this year, for sure.

Way to go fighting through it for all the girls and the parents who sepnt HUGE amounts of money to get their DD's to the event.
