The 2 hosts have been picked and are getting a head start on their housing block. The formal announcment is being made by PONY today.

Responses from the hotels, so far, mean that we will have more rooms - closer to the fields - than last year.

As soon as PONY has made the formal announcement, I'll post the information here.

The list of Ohio and Western PA qualifiers will be available on the Thunderplex website after the announcement, and I'll post the Ohio tournaments here on the OFC.

PONY Nationals is a 6 game guarantee with teams playing at least one game each day.

You beat me to it, Bear. ?:)

However, Warren should read Vienna. ? ;D Also - the Sterling ages should read 18u not 16u. Pony fixed the announcement just about everywhere. Where did you pick it up (so I can get them to change it there too).

Thanks
d

You can reserve an indoor field at no cost for practice at the Thunderplex. Works great.

I watched some interesting actions today at the 10U pony tournament.

I won't mention team names, but just the actions.

Team A is winning 3-0 and has a runner on 2nd. The runner takes a big lead and the catcher from team B throws to third. The runner gets in a pickle. After about four or five throws makes it to third. While this is going on, it appears to some that the runner is out of the baseline. Team B coach yells this to ump. Nothing. The third basement throws the ball back to the pitcher. the runner takes a huge lead off third. Almost halfway down. The pitcher makes no attempt. Probable does not know the runner is off. Team B coach yells at ump that runner should be out. Ump tosses Team B coach from the game.

A little bit later in the same half inning. Team B has a runner stealing 2nd. Team A catcher throws to second. The throw beats the runner. The SS catches the ball. The Team A runner plows into SS, falls on her and tags the bag. Ump calls the runner safe. The SS is hurt and is crying, but with all the commotion, no one realizes that she is hurt. The pitcher from team B is in her windup for the next pitch. The third base coach from Team A yells "timeout". Team B pitcher stops her windup. The ump calls illegal pitch. A parent yells at the ump about the bad call. Ump tosses parent. While not hearing everything, I did not hear any swear word or derogatory comments from the parent. Not saying there could have been, But I was pretty close to the parent.

A little bit later in the same half inning, a new batter hits the ball down the first base line that has a wicked spin on it. The ball rolls foul. Team B first basemen picks up the ball and the runner runs to first. Ump calls runner safe. A parent from team B yells to ask for help from the other ump. Nothing is said. The parent says loudly, "That's the third one" and sits down. Ump throws this parent out.

A little bit later, the ump gets the crew Cheif, and brings the police and tells all the team B parents that are close to fence on their teams dugout side that they have to move.

Quite interesting.

woolfman, I totally agree with you on your description. I saw that game, and was shocked at the officiating. Team A played a better game, but Team B parents were not upset with losing, they were upset with the poor officiating. The umps quickly blew everything out of proportion. For the amount of money all these teams paid, you would have expected better. I've been to other tournaments where parents had gotten out of hand, but this was no where near that level. They simply couldn't believe how some of the calls were made the way they were. The one official seemed to be having a great time throwing people out without even so much as a warning. He was smiling and laughing about it after the game. I wouldn't be surprised if Team B brought video equipment to the next game to record some of these outrageous actions by the umps. Let's hope the umps get their act together tomorrow.

12U results from Pony National...Little Slammers and Heart of Ohio made it to the Final Four in Vienna. They are representing Ohio very well. Unfortunately, they are playing each other. Last word was that Slammers were up 3 zip in the 4th. Two great teams battling to represent Ohio for the 2006 Pony title.

Way to go Ohio!!
