Interesting. Care to share which college coaches were included in this statement? All I know is that Carrie Dever-Boaz has successfully coached college and professional teams and she was advising it for this particular college player whose team was helping out with an NFCA Coaches College course.

A head taller at 12U may be just average at 18U.
Unless we are talking 6'-6" then tall is all relative.
Can she play the position? Nuff said.

This particular person didn't mention any certain schools. He just claims that "quick feet" will beat a throw from the knees according to college coaches. When I asked about who may have said that he mumbled something inaudible and went on with our lesson. He WAS my DD hitting coach 2yrs ago. We've moved on to Steve Gambone..... great hitting instructor!

If you're in the Akron area, take your dd to watch Warren catch for Hoover @ 7:00 tonight. She may be the tallest player on the team lol.

There are times as a catcher where a pitch out and a quick shot from the knees is what get's the runner that's leaning too far, much quicker than the stand and footwork throw. If you've ever seen a good catcher do it, there would be no question in your mind as to whether to use it or not.

As far as college coaches not looking at catchers who throw from their knees......absolutely not true. It was a part of our catcher workouts at college so I would definately say that's a big giant load of poo.

Not to jump off the subject, but I was once told just last year that a college coach won't even look a catcher that throws from her knees? Any insight on this? Personally I like it when my DD cuts loose from her knees.

There is probably some coaches out there that say that, but if she's throwing from her knees, hitting .350 and 20 HRs, they are going to over look the throwing from her knees :)

This particular person has no clue then. It's part of ours catchers workouts at practice every single day. I guarantee our number 1 catcher on my college team has a faster pop from her knees time then any catcher you will ever see or ever play against.

I know I saw at least one catcher throw from the knees for a CS in the College Word Series over the weekend.
