In addition to all my years watching/coaching/umping softball, I also officiate high school volleyball.
During a game last night, I glanced into the stands during a break in the action. At least 25% of the "fans" were staring at their cell phones. You've got to be kidding me! Thinking it was a fluke, I looked later in the match. Yep - still there.
People; you spent money to get into the gym to watch someone you know - daughter, neighbor, friend, whatever - play volleyball. How do you think they feel when they look into the stands and see you surfing Facebook instead of watching them? Your kids know where you're sitting. They look for you during warm-ups. Even if the game bores you to tears, at least give the kids the courtesy of acting like you're watching. And this applies to every sport. Can you do without your I-phone for 90 minutes? Geez.
Rant over.
