Hoodies banned from games?

Has anyone heard the reason behind why H.S coaches are not allowing hoodies to be worn on the field? I have heard from a couple of girls that their coaches said that hoodies were not allowed to be worn during games. This makes no sense to me considering the weather being so cold at this time. Just wondering if this is a new rule or just maybe a certain school rule? :-?

The only rules I know of is that they must be a team hoodie with the player's number on the back.

I went to a store in the innercity the other day and the sign on the door said all hoods must be removed prior to entrance.

maybe it's the sign of the times.

I was watching our highschool team play yesterday and they had warm up jackets on. These jackets had hoods and no numbers on the back and the umps let them play. it was pretty cold out.

Hoodies are banned I believe because it's a loose piece of clothing that another player can possible catch a hand, glove, finger, etc. in as two players are passing. Examples are such as base running past a defender and the ball is hit to that defender, two outfielders in a close call, sliding into a bag or a play at the plate. The loose hoodie can injure the defender by catching a hand, finger or glove and possibly injure the players neck. I don't think they would argue a sweatshirt without the hood. I know in so--er they do not allow hoodies because of potential injury to the wearer and defender. I think it's a pretty good call not to allow them. It's the reason you don't find new hoodies with the strings anymore because the strings were getting caught on things and injuring the person wearing it.

NFHS Rulebook, Rule 3 deals with uniforms. ?Articles 12 and 14 are probably what authorities are referencing.

Article 12. ?Players in the game are prohibited from wearing jewelry such as rings, watches, earrings, braclets, necklaces (including cloth or string types), barrettes or other hard cosmetic or decorative items.

Article 14. ?Any equipment judged by the umpire to be potentially dangerous is illegal

Yes I guess I could see where there could be a possible injury. But heck it is just kinda strange: hoodies bad! Metal cleats ok!

I know I know thats another thread. ;D

As a safety precaution I am all for this. Under armour seems to take up the slack if your DD is getting cold prior to warming up or playing.

This is a case of an OOO*.

My partner and I tell the girls before each game if they want to wear a hoodie or coat in this wonderful NE Ohio, wear it. But don't expect a base if it's hanging out in the strike zone and a it gets hit by pitch. Nothing in the rules book prevents it.

The number on a uniform means nothing in NFHS ball! It's the name that's important. As long as 2 players are not in the game at the same time with the same number, there is no issue that cannot be fixed with a little tape.

Coachmem, My wife makes hoodies (Sports Threads in Grove City) for teams and they are still wearing them. I saw a photo in the local newspaper here in Grove City of a Central Crossing player wearing one during a game. I believe as long as you have a number on the back it is OK. Must be the Coach's decision to not allow this.

My team issues them and we wore them last night without incident. Must be your local enforcement.

It must be just the school. We've played 4 games this week & girls have worn them with no problems. My kid wears UA Cold gear so the hoodie isn't need when she takes the field.

Now that is something--buying a hoodie that is hoodless. What is the world coming to?
