Can anyone tell me how the rules work if you play jr. high and your school is affilated with ohsaa can you play indoors with your travel team on weekends then practice with your jr.high team during the week. I am not sure about the rules. Some one told me if you are playing indoors it doesn't count but I am not sure. Would appreciate any input thanks.

As I understand it, if your Jr High team is sanctioned by OHSAA then they cannot have any contact with your travel team once a game in Jr High is played. They are considered a "rostered player" then and you cannot have contact with them. I am sure someone on here will have the OHSAA rule to post so you can reference it.

Vikingselite is correct.

4.1) A member of an interscholastic fast pitch softball squad (any student who has played
in a scrimmage, preview or regular season/tournament game as a substitute or
starter) sponsored by the Board of Education shall not participate in a non-interscholastic
program (tryouts, practice or contest) as an individual or as a member of
a team in the sport of fast pitch softball during the school?s season (Bylaw 10-3-1).

An important line to notice in the OHSSA rule ( if I understand it correctly ) is "sponsored by the Board of Education". Our Jr. High team is a "club" team - sponsored by the parents.

AD just told me this morning he called the state was told as long as we are playing indoors with our travel team during our jr.high season it doesn't count against you. Just letting everyone know what I've been told.

You are correct. Read Wolfpacks post above on OHSAA, Indoor softball is not considered Softball by the OHSAA. It gets tricky on who is coaching the team and practice. But you made the right call ,always go thru the AD.

Boy do I need some help --I got ask to coach our 7th grade team and mentioned it to our travel coach last night --told him it should'nt be much of a conflict since we don't have any april tournies scheduled. And only 1 indoor march event. So he tells me about the rules that I have now read after using the search function of this board. I was shocked. Do I have this right ---

No practicing with travel once Jr high starts playing ?
No fundraising/contact of any kind is permitted with the travel org. (is this just with my DD or can I not help run a BB tourney or a texas holdem etc)
I guess what it boils down to is if you play Jr high, travel is out for that time period. ----I'm sure there is a reason for this ----what is it ?

I'm reconsidering mine and my kids committment to this. I'm not putting travel 2nd ---It would really be terrible for the school , I don't know if anyone else will take the coaching job. Is my thinking screwed up or is there something I'm missing here ? We are still playing 12u ball --did'nt realize that OSHAA would care what was going on with our 12u team . Thanks MD

PS Can you get around these restrictions by not being sanctioned by OSHAA ? If so what do you lose in the trade off ? Like someone said above be a club team ? Thanks MD

If your 7th grade team is a "club team" and not an OHSAA sanctioned team, you have nothing to worry about. ?If it is recognized as a School Board/OHSAA sanctioned team, you will have to abide by all the regulations that OHSAA requires, which some of them have been mentioned.

OHSAA teams, which are approved by the school board usually get some travel expenses paid for and possibly money for a coach, as well as having school insurance. ?You get none of that on a "club" team.

You are better off staying as a "club" team, unless you are fully funded by your school board. ?

Are the the rule the same for 7th and 8th graders as they are for the 9th graders. I have heard that some of the rules only apply to the Freshman students???????
