What do you think of Right View Pro for Softball Hitting? Baseball Hitting? Softball Pitching?

Or do you recommend something else?

It's tough to argue with the logic behind RVP. Slaught broke the swings of successful major leaguers down on video and found they all shared common attributes during the key phases of the swing. That ?is what his program teaches. No assumptions, just the facts and evidence from the greatest hitters in the world.

The next argument is whether the mans swing is the same in baseball as the womens swing in fastpitch. The consensus in the RVP camp is yes, the swing is the same. the pitches can enter the strike zone at diffrent angles in fastpitch as opposed to baseball but the core mechanics of getting long on the plane of the pitch are the same. Candrea and Enquist both teach RVP geared towards fastpitch and the lessons are the same as Slaught's.

Using video to break a swing down and show the student where there mistakes are, is the best tool I have seen. When there flaws are right in front of them on the screen it is much easier for them to see.

there success speaks for itself

My 14 year old and 11 year old's hitting coach is teaching RVP and has helped a ton. ?I can't even begin to explain the number of areas it has helped improve. ?Watching the swing in slow motion video is just an unbelievable tool. ?There's a ton of drills and the girls first few hitting lessons were mostly on the tee...we still spend tee time. ?Very helpful! ?

bo6608 summed it up pretty well. After studying hitting a while, you'll agree with Enquist, Candrea and everyone else who've bought into swing video analysis that "hitting is hitting". I have a DD playing college softball, and a son playing high school baseball. Their swings SHOULD be nearly identical - we're working on that.

What I noticed was that after using the software for awhile, I began to notice much more subtle things about the swing; things I would NEVER notice at full speed. Being able to compare your kid to A-Rod, Pujols and others is phenomenal! Fair warning though - our high school baseball and softball coaches still teach what I'd call "old school" stuff. RVP will open your eyes to how a quality swing is actually achieved.

I used it for my DD's pitching too. She had her own pitching coach, so I didn't interfere with that. But you can at least show her in slo-mo and freeze frame exactly what she's doing. A secret is that it's also the most accurate speed measurement device out there. All you have to do is count the video frames from release to catcher's mitt. Do the math (at 30 frames per second) and you have an extremely accurate guage of her pitch speed.

Al in all, RVP is a fantastic tool.

I have been using RVP for since 2004, Don uses the analogy of hitting a nail with a hammer and those who have ever used a hammer understand if the elbow is not above the hammer you will not strike the nail so as to drive it but will bend the nail.

When buying the package I recommend getting Candrea/ Enquist and Don on bsaseball as they compliment each other as Don goes into more detail as to the mechanics of the swing in a way most people can understand without being to scientific so the average person would understand it and be able to apply it...cost is about $160 for both.

There is another package at about $675 with the Capture Viewer however you need to go to their web site.

Don has some new stuff coming out soon along with a book.

I have the pitching CD from RVP just as a resource and would say whatever Doug Gillis and Hillhouse teaches seems to work pretty well.

Englishby and Yeager are also good however in my opinion I would stay away from Epstein. I disagree with his whole hand path theory and what he does with the hips.

We were taught under the rvp system during the winter and it has helped a bunch. As far as purchasing the program, is it a cd that you down load into laptop? And can the video be taken on a digital camcorder?

Yes it is on a cd and you put it in and go on line to register it so it can not be copied.

Yes on the cam corder...they will give you the systems requirements for your laptop.

Usually if you call you will get Don or Marcello when they answer the phone...remember they are on the west coast time.

That my friends is SIGNIFICANT improvement. Very nice Howard. That is the one thing about baseball and softball. The numbers do not lie.

Howard has a saying - I can't remember the exact phrasing, but it's something about having measurable results... maybe Howard can chime in and correct me.

The point is that in order to be efficient at improving something like hitting a softball, you need to start with two very important things. First is a plan on what you actually need to work towards, and second, a tool to measure your progress. I agree with Howard in that Don Slaught, Yeager and Englishbey are teaching quality mechanics. After you study this stuff, you'll see why Epstein is off track. His "fence drill" (yikes!) is a good example of WHAT NOT to do. He means well, but his teachings just really don't make sense for good rotational mechanics.

The RVP "system" is a great tool that, if faithfully used, will dramatically improve your DD's swing mechanics. RVP is not the Holy Grail of hitting. It's simply a TOOL to use as a part of the process. With good knowledge about what good swing mechanics should look like, and a trained eye, it can be a tremendous help. But just because you have the fastest, most powerful car doesn't mean you'll win the race without some knowledge and skill.

P.S. - Siderhawk, that is an awesome post showing the stats. Measurable results. Congrats Howard! WSU and Larabee have taken some lumps, but I think that is one program to watch.

Coach Larabee has an open mind and his staff bought into it which is very important also....balance, slow to load, soft to step on a flexed front knee, connection with the elbow slotting and the lead arm elbow pulling and the heel planting.

Getting his team to buy into it was indeed measurable and observable and after working out the issues during fall ball the team kept coming together in my opinion and the team batting average started out at .298 and just kept getting better.

I think Englishby, Yeager and Don have similar approaches and different ways for explaining it however they don't swing down or level on the ball. The concept of staying in the big zone longer gives you the hitter more margin for error and time to adjust especially if you keep your hands above the plane of the pitch...in my opinion.

I share your opinion Elliot...the data speaks for itself no matter who delivers the message.

Wow those stats were enlightening ! ?So the cost is about $160. Can I buy a gift card at Gaint Eagle? :)
