You Know, I just asked a simple question and apparently none of you know the answer, I was told this was a place where I could get some answers not just rambling about why I want to do something or that my daughter must be a pitcher and didn't make some teams, called the Lasers or Stingrays whoever they may be. if you must know I am new here to Ohio, I came from Washington State, am retired my daughters are all grown, all played softball all got full ride scholarships to good colleges and are sucessful people in this world. I coached high school won three state championships. Had two travel ball teams in two different years that never lost a game. I have been involved in softball for over 30 years. I went to some local rec leagues as you call them and saw some girls play, I thought I might be able to help, so I thought why not put something back into this game. I never ran an organization before but I know there are some legal issues with the gov't (IRS) because you are dealing with someone elses money. All I wanted to know is how you set up the organization as a non-profit organization. So in closing all of you must know nothing about and all you want to do is talk (gossip) about players or other people and teams. So much for all the good info on this form. Maybe I should just stay retired and not try to help since all of you people know everything about softball here in Ohio.l
Softballgrl, way to express!! As you can see by looking at other threads, topics never seem to stay on track.
At the risk of getting "bashed", I will let you know that there is indeed yet ANOTHER new team forming in the southwest region.
Reason: Eight girls (and parents) from one existing team, decided that the former team was not moving in the direction they wanted to go. So, new team name? YES Really a new team? NO
The 501 status in not hard to get, just a lot of paperwork to fill out. Get an accountant or an attorney to help. A lot out there who would be willing to do for free or very little cost. But where the cost comes in, is the fee to actually acquire the 501. It can run as much as around $1,000. That is something that you will have to decide you really want to acquire in the first year if you only plan on managing one team. Do you plan to expand, or just remain one team. The 501, lets you get monitary donations that the donor may write off on their taxes. If the parents are willing to pay for all the fees that are required in travel ball, then I would hold off until you see where you really want to go with what you are starting up. That is just my little opinion.
Now, softballgrl, if you are really wanting to give what I see as a MOUNTAIN of experience and genuine love for the game to some willing girls, PM me. We dont think that we are so much of a "stud" team that needs nothing else to succeed. We would love to hear what your intentions are and what you could offer these VERY talented girls who love the game of fast pitch.
