padded stats. I can't wait till see all the kids batting over 500 when they put the stats in the paper this week. Last night the left fielder dropped the ball, today it is a double in the paper. Guess who's dad keeps the stats on the high school team. Let's face it. most high school teams it is a social thing. Just set back and enjoy it. My second time around and the politics is almost funny. It's almost like a Union job . You have seniority, since you have played longer on the team.. Tough to lose that job, no matter how many mistakes you make. It is not travel ball and you didn't shell out $500 or more just to get a chance to play.

Excellent way of putting things in perspective. I've lost a brother when he was 19. It reinforced what I learned after going to the first Persian Gulf War. My oldest dd is going to be a frosh next year. Those who know me on this board, know that where I am, 80% of the time my dd's are there with me whether it is Cedar Point, zoo, rec games, travel games, or just going to a tournament to watch.

Concerning this thread, I'm watching extremely close to our schools to see if the politics game is there. I'm blessed that my older dd can be content on the bench, but she is the first to ask "why is so-so playing when I'm better" in a polite manner. She understands if she sits and someone is better is playing more.

And on some rare occassions, there are clueless parents that don't have their blinders on and accept the truth and realize that there kid just might not have the talent other kids may have.....but that's rare......

Agreed. My comments were made assuming the author of this thread spoke with a valid assessment. It's a pretty fair assumption that a kid that plays 65 games a summer, plus fall and winter, is going to be better then most if not all the HS players that don't play travel.. If not, they are in the wrong TRAVEL sport.. LOL!

So true when it comes to appreciating the time you have with your dd's and sons too. Our oldest 2 children are 27 and 30, and our youngest is 13, and she has been a gift from heaven -- a chance to experience all the great times we had, and some we missed, with the older two because we were too busy with things like careers. I made a vow this time to not miss anything, and it's been wonderful, even though it goes by so darn fast, even when you're savoring every moment.

Probably some of the best advice I have ever read on this board. My dd will be a senior next year and her mother and I can't believe how fast it has gone by. Already trying to figure out what we will do with our weekends. LoL

Doug I will hire you to be one of our coaches....lol

LOL, that other TRAVEL sport you speak of.........isn't a sport.......:)

Lets not forget one thing guys. In most cases aren't the coaches of travel ball players also their fathers. This is just another form of daddy ball. Not always but think about the travel teams out there that are deluted down because the coaches kid did not make a travel team so he decided to start his own team. Just a thought.

Hey it must be contagious, seems as if it is happening everywhere "don't feel like the Lone Ranger" !!!!! It gets frustrating for us Parents who do work with our kids verse's the parents that just put them in a program hoping they will learn something from the High School Coach. It probably has something to do with the School's AD trying to make it fair for the not as talented player. Until something else come's along that takes the place of High School athletics we will have to endure with our children and look at it as just Practice for the Travel Ball Season that is truly the way I see it. Another little piece of information that we heard from a Head Coach at a College here in Ohio, is they will not be looking at mine or your DD in there games as they have games of there own and they don't even consider looking at the STATS as they are usually PADDED!!! So that being said keep in shape and play in the College showcase's or the tournaments that have known College affiliation's for recruiting. SEE YA AT PRACTICE HA!HA! HEE!HEE!
""they don't even consider looking at the STATS as they are usually PADDED!!!""
Our stats keeper stays ensconced in the dugout. It's basically impossible to know what is written down unless one would be a real pain. The stats in the newspaper certainly do not seem to be the game I witnessed.

I would say there is truth in your words but consider that maybe there is no team readily available. Also there may be friends of the DD who desire to be the core team. If Daddy is willing to donate his time and possibly monetary resources as well do other folks need to criticize? I know there are some out there who think these MEDIOCRE players have no right to be in travel ball but rec ball stinks.

Sorry Hitter 23, I guess the point I was trying to make after reading the first post is that some travel ball teams and or players just aren't elite players. I have a high school team in my area that has about 5 or 6 travel ball players on it and they do OK in travel ball but for what ever reason these kids just can't seem to win with the High School team. Granted these kids are mostly in 9th and 10 grade and they play well in the week end tourneys but they just can not seam to do well against the weaker or rec ball players.

53 I agree with you and sometimes the kids on weaker travel teams that finally do get the playing time end up developing into the best players. I just meant that maybe some players on weaker travel teams may be not as good as some rec ball players in some cases.

Lets look at this point....a freshman travel ball player is age 14 or 15. A HS senior is 17 or 18. That is a HUGE difference. There are only a handful of 14U travel players that have played up to 18U.

i think as someone else said on another thread most travel ball players stick out in the field more than at plate.we have a couple girls one inparticular who hits as good as any travel player.just weaker in field and gane scenarios
