I guess. There are few, if any, spring summer tournaments that draw 28 teams in one age bracket. Factor in the quality of the teams, like this Spano tourney is drawing, and this would be one heck of a tournament to have happen during the "regular season". Someday we all have to make this kind of a tournament happen in like June or July, and outdoors. 28 or more solid teams from PA/OH/etc. Maybe next year. Just there are so many good teams from OH, PA. Alot of them don't even see each other once, outdoors, throughout the season, and they are relatively closer to one another than they probably think. I know doing it in Feb is easier since pretty much nobody has anything else going on at that time. Really should try doing it.

Our older team entered this tournament because of the different competition and ended up drawing a team they see regularly and scrimmage often. LOL

We hope to get a ton of 14U teams for the Sunraze Slam on Memorial Day Weekend. We work our tails off to give the players, coaches, and parents a great overall experience. And, it is outside. Please visit www.sunraze.org to get registered.

Sounds like a very solid field of teams. I did notice that there are 5 Pittsburg Spirit teams listed. Is this a typo or is there really 5 Spirit teams at the 14u level?

yep. there are 5. They'd have more except they ran out of colors, girls, coaches, or all of the above. Just kidding. They, and Power, do field many teams in each age bracket. I guess there is nothing wrong with that in the end.

Question - we play the Pittsburgh Spirit Silver and the Xplosion - is this the top Spirit team - the 2nd, any idea? Also, the Xplosion - HOH Xplosion or someone else?

Seriously not trying to be politically correct by saying this, but all the Spirit 14u teams are solid. From what I think I know, the Silver is the mostly 2nd year 14u team. Last year they were 14u NSA/Western Pa champs and that is no easy task. So..... if you asked me, I'd have to say that for right now the silver would be considered their "top" 14u team by most. But the Black is very solid also, but mostly a 13u team. Same goes for the Red. They all can hit. Our girls played the black and red a few times at 12u last year and have basically split with them. Scrimmaged both of them twice each this winter and they still look solid. Not sure about the white or the gold. Hope that helps.

so, the big question is not whether slammers won, but did they live up to all the hype

Glad, the Slammers are for real and live up to the hype. I will add that most of these girls (if not all) do more in a week that most players do in 3 months. They are explosive and fun to watch.

"most of these girls (if not all) do more in a week that most players do in 3 months." ...WOW .... So you're saying they run 96 miles , do 1280 push-ups , 1920 sit-ups , and have 36 practices a week ??? That is VERY impressive !

I am saying that they do more than most girls their age. They did not get that good by being born. My dd works out almost every night and she gasped when she saw their schedule. And I am saying that if other gils had their work ethic Ohio softball would take a huge leap for the better. BTW, where did you come up with those numbers? Being fit doesn't equate into being able to hit the ball

Shock , 3 months is 12 times as long as 1 week. I simply took what my dd does in 1 week and multiplied it by 12. You stated that they "do more in a week"...you never said just in hitting drills. There is no doubt that they are a great team and they work very hard, I just think you were a bit ridiculous in your statement. Jmho. Have a great day and a better softball season.

I think that Shockwave made the case that (they do more in a week then "most" girls do in three months). In other words he was kind of making a general point. Not a specific comparison to your DD username. I have seen the workout schedule and it covers hitting, fielding, pitching, conditioning, etc. On any one of those 3 hour sessions they do in fact do more then "many" players do. Weather its 3 months worth or not may be a little bit of a stretch but again I think Shockwave was just trying to make a general point.

I know what their training schedule is like and I must say that it is actually training with a specified purpose. Not just taking ground balls, smacking a few balls off tees ect. It is not for everyone and they have worked to make themselves the players that they are.

So far I would say that Bill's experiment has been a success overall.

Wow...that's about all I can say! I got my first chance to see the Slammers in action and boy-o-boy they really are the real thing. I saw them play the semi's and the championship game last night. Their pitching is incredible and their hitting is even better!!!! :yahoo: Where do kids learn how to play like this...? I thought that the Chain Reaction did such a good job trying to compete with them last night....but it just was not fair. I think the Slammers do need to stay up and out of the 14u age group. I see now why they play 16u & 18u all the time. Great Job Slammers and congrats!!! I had a lot of fun watching you guys play! Great job to the Chain Reaction team also!

Actually spirit silver is the westmoreland team....basically west points ll all star team with 2 or 3 latrobe girls. Actually silver is the westmoreland team which is basically west points little league all star team with a couple latrobe girls mixed in. Santillio was nsawpa champs last year beating gems at 14u. It is hard to keep track km 5 teams at each age group and the players constantly inter mix at various tournaments....just wait till iup and watch the power spirit all star teams
