I'm just amazed at the turnout. I really am. 28 teams. I know the choices to play ball this time of year are slim and almost none, but $350 for 3 indoor games (which half the field will only get), and hours upon hours of downtime? I'd love to see this kind of a field for an outdoor tournament. We thought about attending, our older teams went to the 16u one this past week, though their format was for 4 games. But I'm missing the point I guess. I'm not trying to knock it, so please don't get me wrong. Spano is a nice facility and the tourneys seems to run good. And obviously, with 28 teams, I'm in the minority here. But I have to ask, seriously, what do teams look to get out of this? Can't be the world series berth for most of these teams, as they would probably qualify thruout the normal season. Though I can't believe its a qualifier given the field dimensions and format, no offense intended Spano. The games can only average about 4 innings at most, so the combined 12 innings over 3 games of seeing live pitching or facing live batters can't be all that valuable, can it? Might barely get thru your lineup once in some cases. The players never have a chance to adjust. And with the field size, its just not close to a game on a normal field. Unless both pitchers are dominant, then I guess it would be similar to how it would play out on a normal field. If it were closer to the start of the "season", like the end of April, I'd understand it a little more as it could be a tuneup for all. But after this is played there will still be 2 months for most teams until they see action again. There are many teams from the Pittsburgh area, 11 I think, which is a 2 hour trip in general. Geez, I feel like maybe we should have attended. Feel left out. Maybe its just the field of teams itself that is the draw for each other. Definitely a strong field. I'm coming to watch some of it for sure. After that maybe I'll understand the draw.
