2009 Ohio Capital Conference...

I have been to the Ohio Capital Conference website many times over the last few weeks to find last year's final standings. The site has been "under construction" for most of the time and provides almost no information.

Does anyone have last year's final conference standings?

And how are they calculated for "champion" status? I can see how it is easy to determine the division winner, but is there a outright conference champ? In volleyball this fall, I recall a overall conference champ being named without any kind of playoff.

Well, the only thing that makes sense it to cross-reference Bink44's picks for the OCC placement with the list of impact freshmen from a separate thread.

Based on the initial looks, the OCC Central is picking up the most named players, with Central Crossing picking up two players, and Upper Arlington getting a top pitcher. UA is picked second, and Central Crossing fourth in the Bink44 vision.

Olentangy is picked seventh out of eight in the OCC Central, but has a named top-line pitcher in the Freshmen thread.

I am now trying to create a matrix to add the Weather Channel long-range forecast into these equations and get a clearer picture of the spring.

I know it's only indoor, but here are results from the Field Sports High School league in Dublin.

The final four teams were all OCC schools - Upper Arlington faced Westerville North, and Central Crossing faced Hilliard Davidson.

UA defeated Central Crossing in the final.

Highland, Bloom Carroll, Olentangy Liberty, and Groveport Madison were knocked out in the quarter-finals.

Sideliner,

Were you a regular for the winter league/varsity division? If so did you think the overall (top to bottom) pitching in the W.L. was much deeper then in years past? Sunday alone we faced...

1) Erica Reese
2) Audrey Plant
3) Olentangy Liberty Pitcher...I've seen her before and I think I know who it was, but I may be wrong, so I can't say...lol. But she was very, very impressive also.

there may be benefits to playing indoor, especially for the players who do not get reps elsewhere
don't read too much into this as a bearing on the season a dominant pitcher can rule indoor especially this time of year when hitters are way behind because of lack of live hitting.

without grove city, gahanna, darby, thomas worthington, etc., you were missing alot of firepower in that format.

don't get me wrong, it is always good to practice but in no way should this be used as any type of measure on how the OCC will go this year

Bink,
Liberty's pitcher is Cara Hunsinger. She started all but 1 game last year as a sophomore and was 2nd team all-league.

We were on the other side of the bracket, but the UA pitcher was certainly impressive - fast, good control, and good up-down ball movement. Generally, I thought that pitching was good - but I didn't see a lot of depth.

That could be a function of how teams manage pitching assignments, although this was certainly a chance to try out new pitchers.

riots4, Thanks for the info.

sideliner, I agree...4 or 5 really solid pitchers and then it dropped off a level. I'm just glad that our younger hitters had the oppurtunity to see at least 3 of them over the past 2 weeks, you can't duplicate these type of reps in the cage.

So now that the first week of the season is coming to a close, are there any updates, comments, questions or snide remarks to be considered...lol just kidding. I do know that we have been lucky with the weather up until today. Hopefully all the fields here in Central Ohio will dry out, so we can all get our doubleheaders in tomorrow!!! :)

Dublin Scioto (0-2) 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 1
Central Crossing (3-0) 0 4 0 6 X 10 8 0

Freshman Savanna Dorsey throws her first High School no hitter and sophomore Allissa Turkovich hits a 3 run shot in the 2nd inning to lead the offense.
