Most dangerous batters in high school

As I head out to watch a few games this weekend, a post on another thread has stoked some interest. They talk about a player hitting .700+, and that player drives in two runs in a game with 2 ab's, to win the game 3-1. My question is two-fold - who are the games most feared batters, and why would you pitch to them?

I haven't seen every player in the state this year, so this is just based on who I've seen play. My "top ten plus one" are:

Katie Yoho -Grove City
Kayla Ledbetter - Gahanna
Kasi Vasquez - Upper Arlington
Hiedi Grassele - Hilliard Darby
Kellie Rodabush - Hilliard Darby
Alex Marcantonio - North Canton Hoover
Lauren Grimes - Talmadge
Hannah Fulk - Hillsdale
Tess Sito - Elyria
Abbie Rhodes - Sheridan
Lindsy Tobias - Defiance

Any others you would not want to face or walk to not give up the dinger?

Brittany Duncan, Fairborn, Boulderdad's DD.

I agree with you hitter on Brittany. I also need to add to the list, Courtney Coleman for Grove City. Hit a Grand Slam today againest Plickerington North. I think she has 8 hr's for the year.

there was a hitter that played for Buckeye Heat Toledo 16u last year - I don't remember her name but she could mash... I think her last name was Dick - any one have copy on that?

the Wolfpack catcher Caitlyn - she can bang too.

I like Brittany Gambi form Pickerington North too.

Billy,
One of the reasons is you have to pitch to them as the ones right behind them are a threat to get on and get runs in. Darby's 2-6 are all good at getting the ball in play and making things happen. 3,4,5 can all put it out at any time...

david, that gamby kid does that for north at every sport she plays...i think she is going to play basketball somewhere, i think she is signed...one of those "freaks of nature" that we comment about seeing from time to time

No way!!!!! I will take my chances with the other players, and if I lose I lose. There is no way any other player from the Darby lineup can be compared with Grassel and Rodabush for what they can do with a bat. The others may be good, but they are not in the dangerous category of the afore mentioned!

Those two have been killing teams for as long as they have been around, and with them on the same team, I'll take my chances, they would never get a strike unless I had a 15 run lead and was wearing full pads and a mask!

So you'd rather put on a 3rd batter speed demon, with a power hitter right behind her in 4th, who had 5 HRs and 7 triples last year, triple/ double tonight as well along, then Kellie behind her and also with a number two hitter who regularly gets on and had two triples tonight. Oh yeah this was at Darby who put in a 200' fence two weeks ago, so the deep fence talk goes out the window on these hits. Then once they get on a slapper bunter who can lay it down doing her job almost at will to move them and wreak havoc... That's why you have to pitch to them.

Softball games are too close to put anyone on, that's why you have to know where to pitch the batters you are talking about and they all can be pitched to in the right spot....

Yes I would! I have seen to much of Grassle and Rodabush kill the best teams to let them beat the team in the field - they are special players and those types of players only come around in a blue moon, and Darby has two of them in the same lineup. Count your blessings, and I think most teams will agree with you, but how many losses will it take? If they want to hit it out, make them chase, other than that, take your chance on the rest!

Seven Home runs in seven games...... Has anyone done anything like that anywhere else. Just asking, as she is a Frosh and thinking that must be pretty special????

The one that impressed me the most this year was Sito of Elyria. Seeing her hit was better than watching her pitch..

Agree with Ledbetter from Gahanna.

Emily Lafferty from Lakota East in the GMC has 6 HR, .639 OBP, .488 AVG.. Lots of teams choose to walk her.

Another one who isn't a "power hitter" but a great slapper and speedster is Christin Miller from Mason. I can't possibly say this for sure but I'd be willing to argue that she is the best lead off hitter in the state. She finds a way on base and will burn you no matter how you try to play her.

I was gonna mention Jayla, but I didn't want to "out" her, so to speak. Lol Thought we could maybe keep her Perry's secret.

Carly Clarke from stasvegas had 10 before they played their tenth game if i'm not mistaken. I have no idea how many she has now.

Speaking of Perry I have seen Kourtney Yarnall hit......I think she deserves to be mentioned.

Define dangerous. If my team was ahead by one run with runners on second and third there's nobody I'd be more afraid of to see at the plate than Bethany Campbell from Lebanon. Because she's such a good pitcher what she can do with a bat tends to get overlooked. She may not hit a lot of homeruns, but is a very consistent hitter who just seems to get even better with runners in scoring position. She just seems to thrive on pressure.

Agree with this one. Bowling Green recruit who hit 2 HR's off my dd in consecutive at bats. She is the only hitter to put it over the fence off my dd this season. Then she gets knocked out cold while pitching (by our SS's line drive) and comes back to play a game the next day and hits a double. Tough as nails.
