Best of luck to the Sapphires!! Indiana Shockwaves always bring great teams and it sounds like your battle was one of those "instant classic" games. Whatever happens today, you've had a great tournament.

Thanks Ohio brothers & sisters. This has been a week like no other. Some of our scores look better than I "felt" during those games . Looking back, to see 6-2 & 4-0 wins seems so weird because all of those games were nailbiters, mostly, that the ladies found a way to win ... maybe tack a few runs on late to put it away, once or twice. We faced more than one situation where the winning run for the other team was on 3rd, or we were losing late in a game with zero pulse and apparently "flat lining" .... before the "angels" showed up, lol. Somehow we hung in there and got a "W".

An amazing week .... having some coffee right now, preparing to take the field for "one more day" with this team ... very mixed emotions. So proud.

.... finding assorted clues (receipts, mustard packets, line-up cards, business cards, band aid wrappers, etc) in my score bag & pockets about what really happened during the day yesterday, slowly piecing it together ..... We are "running on one headlight" at this point, never ever been around so many "winners" ..... the ladies have truly humbled their coaches and parents ... and some other pretty good teams that thought that they were "BA" .... a real TEAM of 10 (well 9 1/2 :lmao:) players, everyone rowing together ....

Resisted temptation to post during this "run" all week, and those that know me understand how hard that is for me .... the karma was just too pure to mess with, though. It's been fun, just sharing a few thoughts with those that may be interested.

Thanks for the support, and thoughts!!! :yahoo:

So what was the deal with the Mustangs? They only allowed one run the entire tournament but didn't mercy anyone.
Assuming one or two lights out pitchers?

Here is what I wrote to a Slammer's parent friend of mine ....

" The champions (Mustangs) are from Northern GA, and their pitcher (Sophomore) was player of the year in Tennessee (as a Freshman). Their infield plays HS ball with her also. VERY good all around team, not over powering, not big, not overly fast .... just a strong pitcher, and "very good" cast around her. " .......

I would add that they just do everything right. Very well schooled on technique, intelligent, high softball IQ, will rob you blind. GREAT arms around the infield, and good quick feet. And to top it off, a girl no more than 5'4" 115 lbs hit a rocket out to left venter with a mate on base. We played them even, except for one inning. They won't impress you until about half way through the game when you realize that they make no mistakes, and have figured your pitcher out

Just a great team, although not intimidating at all. They win a LOT of 2-0 games though. They just remind me of the elite Indy & Ohio teams, actually - they do everything well, and have a dynamite pitcher.

We had 2nd & 3rd in the 4th or 5th inning, and our Catcher hit a rocket down the line that the 3B snared, easily could have been 2 runs and a runner at 2nd ...... oh well. Good team, hats off to them. Very classy as well, worthy champion, and undoubtedly the correct one.

NOTE: All that said above, I think they would be competitive with the Lasers Red & Slammers (haven't seen Wizards Elite), but I would not bet against those Ohio teams.

Saw Chattanooga Force (VE-Kiser beat Force 6-2), Tennessee Eagles (we beat Eagles 2-1), and Tennessee Fury, who are also going to ASA ... would take the Ohio top teams over them as well.

Tom,
Congratulations to the Sapphire organization. We had a blast down in Tennessee and your team was the last Ohio team standing. A 3rd place finish in a World Series National Tournament is tremendous.
Great job!!!!!!!!!!
from the Kiser Valley Extreme 14U team.

Thought the NSA did a great Job with the tournament. facilities that we played on were as good as any and I mean any field you could play. Umpiring was also great. Our kids really enjoyed Chattanooga!
