What improvements do you foresee this year for tournaments there?

Will fields be fenced with temporary fences or open like last year?

Are gate fees $5 per day, even if you get scheduled for a Friday night game? How about a pass good for all three days you buy up front that equals the cost of 2 days entry.

Will there be every effort put forth by the grounds crews to get fields playable?

These are some of the things under consideration if teams make commitments to play any tournaments there this year.

???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

These are all good questions, i hope this year will be a different story for this park than last, because as far as I'm concerned it was a huge disappointment last year......

I apologize for the lateness of the responses. I am not on this every single day so it takes me some time to reply. As for all of your questions:

1. Some improvements for this year: The road has been completed. It is a much nicer entrance than the gravel road. Also, the utilities and electricity will be up and running by this summer. Being that it is a new park, it is tough to have everything work all at once. That takes care of the porta john question because obviously there will be restrooms along with a restaurant in the middle of the diamonds. They are also working on getting the liquor license for the restaurant.

2. For fastpitch tournaments there will be temporary fences put up with the exception of Diamond 8 because that is a regulation fastpitch field.

3. The entrance gate fees are at the discretion of the organization running it. And as far as last year goes, I believe that the fees were $5.00 upon entering but they also gave you a ticket for a free Gatorade. That would technically put your fee down to about $3.00 per day for the entrance fee. Weekend passes have been attempted and have not shown much of an interest from the crowd.

4. As far as I have heard, there were no tournaments cancelled last summer. They were delayed, which will happen when it rains. This fall there were a lot of problems with getting leagues ran because of the amount of rain and the lack of sun to dry out the fields along with the colder temperature. Every effort will be made to keep the games running on time.

I hope this answers all of your questions and please take into consideration that this is a brand new sports park. It takes a lot of time and effort to get everything together and in place. Please see things from all perspectives before jumping to conclusions.

I don't think anybody was jumping to any conclusions. They were basing their comments on previous experience. We had similar experiences at OSP last year.

Here is some more questions:

Is there a functioning traffic light at the entrance/exit or will patrons expect to sit stuck in traffic for a half hour waiting to get out like last year?

Have they put tops on the backstops to keep foul balls from hitting people in the head that are watching another game on another field like was happening last year?

Have they resolved the issues with the lighting and the neighboring drive-in so that games can be played at dusk as opposed to dawn?

I'm glad that they have gotten a liquor license, keep the taps flowing long enough and it will start to look like the park is a really great place through fuzzy eyes.;&

I understand that they will have growing pains. My opinion is they should have done some research (i.e the drive-in, traffic, backstops, etc) and had gotten the park in working order before they decided to open. They left a real bad taste in people's mouths and many tournaments have already given up on them for this year.
JMHO- don't shoot the messenger!

First yes they did cancel a fall tournament this year without notifing the organization hosting the event. Found out by going to check on the fields. Second, they set the gate fees, not the organizations and they took 100%. The fee did allow u to get $1 off a concession item taking the entrance fee down accordingly. Parents were very upset they could not purchase weekend tickets until the end of the season. Had notification been provided prior to arriving many people would have purchased. Third, why woulod you want to put it out there about selling alcohol and a children's sponsored event.

Just my thoughts from having assisted with two tournys and one canceled event at this location last year. . .Best of luck!

I would like to ammend my previous statement about a bad taste...Starting to look like a bad smell, then a bad taste, then a really bad aftertaste, followed by an upset stomach and now possibly alcohol poisoning!

As far as the entrance/exit goes, it is now located on the Lorain Rd. side so it is not at the same side of the park anymore. I cannot tell you if they will be putting in a light or not at that area. I've played a lot of softball in my time and I could count on one hand how many tournaments actually had a netted in area so foul balls were not a problem. They are going to happen, so if they have future plans for the tops on the backstops, I do not know. Many of these questions I cannot answer because I am not a member of the Sports Park. We are simply trying to host a couple of tournaments out of there.

Isn't Aspiring Athletes (the teams); and The High Intensity Training Sports Complex (HITS)(the indoor practice facility); and Ohio Nets Sports Complex (the indoor volleyball/basketball facility); and The Ohio Sports Park (the outdoor sports baseball/softball complex); all owend and run by the same group

Actually I think the tournament went off without a hitch last year. We really enjoyed it and have many of our teams participating in it in 2010.

When I think of OSP I can't help but have flashbacks of softball world and the greed.

Yep, all have been addressed fixed and corrected either at the time or for this years tournament, and they were all minor in comparision to OSP's issues. Plus we have added many things to make our tournament even better this year as we are aways trying to improve the experience. ie. homerun fences on all fields.....

Aspiring Athletes and it's teams are NOT owned by the same gentleman who own the Ohio Nets/HITS/Sport Park facilities. Therefore, like mentioned before, Aspiring Athletes is not directly affliated with the operation of any of the facilities. HITS and the Sports Park are simply facilities that SOME Aspiring Athletes teams call home.
