ASA Hall of Fame Tournament

Mike:

So teams playing second year 14U in the summer need to play 16U in the fall to qualify for the next year's tournament?

Yes, that's my understanding.

In talking to Warren, between scheduling Region 9, States and NQ plus not wanting to step on showcases like Stingrays, GAPSS, etc..., he runs out of weekends. So, he is trying to make the fall when the HOF qualifiers are held for the next year.

I am glad to hear that QM and the facilities down south are throwing their weight behind hosting the tournaments. Like Eagleone, I offered to host it for Warren because I was affraid that no one else would and we wanted to go if we could qualify.

Our goal for going was more for experience, competition and qualifying more than for exposure at 14 as well.

I agree Mike. I think having it in the Fall ( HOF qualifiers) was a smart move by Mr. Jones and it does indeed give an opportunity for teams to plan the trip to Oklahoma City.. instead of making it a last minute plan like CGS said in an earlier post.

I like the idea that in 2011 events are planned.

In 2011 the tournaments are like this:

June 11th -12th, 2011 = 10u, 12u, 14u, 16u, 18u National Qualifiers

June 18th -19th, 2011 = 16u and 18u Region 9 National Qualifiers

June 25th -26th, 2011 = ALL State Tournaments for ALL age groups

I have bidded on six events for Southern Ohio.... hoping to get one ... lol

I looked at two others as well to bid on.

My plan is to support the Circuit of Champions in 2011 with the monies from the tournaments.. if we get any.

I like the thought of having these in the fall but how much of a problem do you think the older age groups will have getting players with HS sports?

That's always a problem with anything in the Fall actually.. whether a college showcase, etc....

I guess it matters who wants to go and who doesn't . But getting dates out asap will help.

Thanks and this is your event.. the 16u. I just haven't had the time to let you know.

16u will be the Cure event, Mardee. I am keeping my promise to you. I was hoping to land a 2011 NQ or State event for you.. but it just wasn't in the cards.

Just haven't set a date yet. I will soon.

What are you doing up this late?...lol I thought only us TD's work late?

I am glad it makes you happy. I tried for 2 states and 2 NQ without success. Those would have been big money events for the Cure. Maybe if we get the word out.. we'll get a nice response from the teams. Still trying to get answers whether it is open to any team from any state. That'll be nice....lol

But, I do have the Women's "D" State in 2011.....lol

Love to have you at the event as the 16u event is for the Cure. Hopefully, we can find some teams wanting to play even if they don't want to go to OKCity for a good cause and some competition.

I'll be setting a date by MOnday I hope. Getting some imput from coaches that I know about dates, problems with school stuff, etc... in the September month.. as we will be playing this in September but not on the last weekend of September... as that is the new date for USSSA Fall State at Expressway Park in Milford and Bobby is a friend and I'd never drop a date on his event... being we are five miles apart. We've known each other too long for that.

This is one of the best exposure/competitive tournaments during the regular summer season! Are there any teams that have qualified and plan to attend this summer in 2010?

Tim:

Did you confirm that a team in its second year of 14U eligibility during the summer of 2010 will play in the 16U qualifier? I'm fairly certain that is right. Unfortunately, Labor Day weekend is also the 14U Queen of Diamonds South tournament, and summer 2010 14U teams can enter that. So we will have a hard choice to make. But I want to emphasize that moving these qualifiers to the fall makes all the sense in the world.

Yes, whatever your age group is in for 2011 Summer season is what age group you can play in this year's Fall event.

The 16u Hall of Fame Qualifier is Labor Day weekend.

The 14u Hall of Fame Qualifier is September 18th and 19th.

I put it on the Labor Day weekend ... as that seemed the best place to put it so it didn't interfere with high school sports season for the 16u teams.

I too am glad for the teams that it is in the Fall instead of the Summer where previous teams who won the qualifier.... had to leave three days later to be in Oklahoma City for the HOF event. I think the Summer dates turned off teams from entering the qualifier.

Carol, I have never not been the one to not ask opinions... so I can have it Labor Day weekend or the weekend after it (Sept. 11-12th ). As the last thing I want to do is deter any girl from being seen by college coaches.... but it is an uphill battle as well for 16u teams in the Fall.

As you well know being with the Heat, the event itself is a fundraiser for Mardee and her son James and finding a cure. If we do move it to the weekend after Labor Day.. I can always run a 16u and 18u event (regular tournament ) add-on... along with the current 14u, 12u and 10u event for the "Cure" that is already set in place for Labor Day weekend. Then have the 16u HOF event the following weekend ( 11th-12th).

I'll put a poll in the ASA section... with the dates and ask teams. I'm open and it is early enough to still ask.

I'll start the thread and come back here and place the link to it.
