Just some questions I wanted to get some answers on before this Friday....

1. Does many Ohio teams go to the Hall of Fame Tournament in Oklahoma City, OK ?

2. Most Hall of Fame qualifiers are played in the Fall of the year. Are teams interested in this type of event in the Fall ?

Thanks,

Tim Cleaver

I tried to Host the 16U Hall of Fame Qualifier this past October in Pickerington and received no entries.

Wouldn't happen to know who tried the 10u, 12u or 14u events do you ?

Yes, it would be GREAT if we had fall qualifiers in Ohio. Qualifying in the summer and then having to orchestrate a trip to Oklahoma within as little as one to two weeks just doesn't cut it.

Eagles One: did you advertise that 16U fall qualifying on OFC? I must have missed it.

My team went in 2005 and was just an awesome trip. Great competition just a bit behind ASA/USA but being in the main stadium, the Hall of Fame was a great experience the girls still talk about. We were there the week after the College World Series and the field was still all painted up. Pretty cool.

Fall qualifiers would be better. The year we went we qualified on a Sunday and had to be there that Wednesday. Put the whole trip together in 2 days. Will never do that again.

Well... ALL the OHIO ASA Hall of Fame events (qualifiers) MUST be played in the Fall this coming season. MUST BE. No exceptions.

This is why I am asking questions about it all and if there an interest by the teams.

The fall would be great. Teams can then get prepared to go. I would love to do this tournament within a year or two.

They for sure have to be in the Fall of 2010 for the 2011 Hall of Fame event in Oklahoma City.

What age groups would be interested is my next question.

I did advertise on OFC and the Huddle. It seems that no one had any interest in going except us. I did get a team from Iowa or Kansas inquire but it was past the date that it was scheduled to be played. We have since changed our mind about going as I have had several coaches tell me it is not very well attend by college coaches due to the low number of teams and the travel to get there. It still would have been a great chance to go play some of the best in nation prior to Nationals but exposure is our primary goal right now.

I figured that Bill Lilley would have been hosting the 14U as he did the prior year.

BD told me in the chat room last night that it was well attended by college coaches when they went as 14u and 16u.

Tim,

I know EMR, Slammers, Doom , and Lasers have all sent teams in recent years. Imagine many more teams/orgs would consider now, with an entire fall/winter to plan/finance their trip.

Sounds Great!

HOF is like any other large showcase.Coaches are there to see who they are there to see. The only other team we saw from ohio was Gregorys 92 Doom,Im sure the Lasers were there somewhere, we just diddnt cross paths. Most coaches run the same path, there late on sat and early on sun as sun is a travel day for them

Lasers Black is hoping to attend OKC in 2011 as 14 year old team. I have discussed with Warren Jones the possibility of hosting the 14u HOF qualifier at Olentangy this coming fall.

Mike:

So teams playing second year 14U in the summer need to play 16U in the fall to qualify for the next year's tournament?

I would assume so. I will personally know more after Sunday.

Clermont County Convention and Visitors Bureau, Heisler Park and myself have bid in on Hall of Fame event. I cannot say which age group as the bids have to be in by Friday and a meeting is to be held this Sunday in Columbus determining who gets the bid.

Slammers went to Ok. City as 14U in 2008 & 2009.

2008 HOF 14U Qualifier was Apr 19-20, 2008 at Berliner, in Columbus. Slammers hosted the 2009 HOF 14U qualifier at Walsh University in N. Canton last May 30-31.

My opinion is that we went to Ok. City for the competition and to qualify for ASA Nationals.

As to exposure, I've heard it is better at 16U. Not saying they were not there but, I personally do not recall seeing any college coaches while there for 14U.
