Sounds like the travel ball coach needs to do some better recruiting.......Looks like he may be passing up some good players....

Ironically, the rec players are who the High School coaches have seen most. They are in their town, going to their camps, going to their open gyms (usually more then the travel player, because of Fall & Winter Travel Ball commitments....)

No real suprise here. They pick and play those that have been around for them to see.

On some rare occassions, there are the HS Coach that can easily assess talent and pick the right kids. Those who can't differentiate the Rec Player from the Travel player during the two week try-out period, then continue to play those that have been in and around the program. Hard to swollow, but should not be a surprise.

It's the one place the Travel Ballers on the outside looking in. ^_^!

And on some rare occassions, there are clueless parents that don't have their blinders on and accept the truth and realize that there kid just might not have the talent other kids may have.....but that's rare......

Very often when you have a quality travel player that knows more about the game and the way to play it than the coach, the player is going to be benched because she threatens the coaches control of the team.

Let's face it, the girls know who is the best player(s) and they attempt to mimic their actions. If you have a stud hitter that swings a RT, all the girls want to swing that RT thinking that they will be hitting just as well. See what I am trying to say? Less than adequate coaches are threatened by very good players, they can't cut them but they can make them ineffective by benching them.

It's all about ego for far to many coaches, both HS and travel. JMHO

Why, oh why, can't our HS team play more of these team who are willing to lose by playing less talented players? It always seems to me that the teams we play want to win - darn it.

Just to show some favour to peta, lets beat them instead of the horse.
5 weeks till travel ball starts, can't wait.
That theory about putting the best 9 on the field now thats a laugh.

In addition to the coach feeling "threatened", is it possible that maybe the travel ball players are displaying a little too much attitude? (I'm a great travel ball player and you common rec ball players s-u-k).

A good coach will nip that one in the bud right away.

(But I wouldn't rule out politics by any means!)

Hey it must be contagious, seems as if it is happening everywhere "don't feel like the Lone Ranger" !!!!! It gets frustrating for us Parents who do work with our kids verse's the parents that just put them in a program hoping they will learn something from the High School Coach. It probably has something to do with the School's AD trying to make it fair for the not as talented player. Until something else come's along that takes the place of High School athletics we will have to endure with our children and look at it as just Practice for the Travel Ball Season that is truly the way I see it. Another little piece of information that we heard from a Head Coach at a College here in Ohio, is they will not be looking at mine or your DD in there games as they have games of there own and they don't even consider looking at the STATS as they are usually PADDED!!! So that being said keep in shape and play in the College showcase's or the tournaments that have known College affiliation's for recruiting. SEE YA AT PRACTICE HA!HA! HEE!HEE!

As a second time around parent/coach all I can say is that in the blink of an eye our time with our children passes by so quickly and then 90% of them move onto life after softball.........trust me gonna be a big void in alot of parents life when the weekend tournies are over.........enjoy it now regardless of the hand you are dealt........make it about the time with you and your kid and cherish it.......I have some very close friends who have lost children at way too young of an age........they would trade in every single game, tourney, whatever, for one more hug......enjoy it while you can.

Probably some of the best advice I have ever read on this board. My dd will be a senior next year and her mother and I can't believe how fast it has gone by. Already trying to figure out what we will do with our weekends. LoL

excellent thought Miamisburg Sting!!! More and more should grab ahold of this and live by it. I'm in my second time around also - I went through it with my son- thru college ball and now with my daughter who will soon be in HS and I know that the next 4 yrs will go so dang fast- enjoy it while you can - it will NOT last forever.
