For further clarification, your official roster can have as many girls on it as you want, and it should include your varsity players, JV players and your Freshman/JV B -> ??? players. For instance...my official roster I turned in had 23 girls on it.

But for tourneys you are only allowed to have 18 players in your dugout, and they must all be in the same uniform or they can not play in the game. So if you have 40 girls on your roster only 18 can go to the game, lets say you win that game, you could have 18 new players in the dugout for game two, and so on. the 18 is how many can travel to tourney and be in dugout, not necessarily how many are on your roster.

Yes JV or freshman girls can play up on varsity for the tournament, if that is what you are asking. I think they can only have 18 girls, i think not real sure though.

How close do the uniforms have to be? Let's say the varsity uniform has gold stitching around the number whereas the junior varsity has white or blue stitching or the uniforms looks the same as far as colors but the varsity and junior varsity have different neck collars. Does it have to be EXACTLY the same or very similar that most people wouldn't notice?

You are da man. I got on tonight to clarify and I saw that you were already on it. Thanks. Our HS coach and I were talking about this today. I am trying to get ahead of the game by having all of the rostered girls listed on the line-up card now that we have an expanded roster.

So, if you are a travel ball player and your name is on the tournamet roster, then you cannot participate witrh your travel team until your HS coach releases you.

No player should be released at any level of HS ball as long as your team is still in the tourney. JMPO
Heaven forbid a group goes down with sickness or some unforeseen circumstance and you have all your other players released. Be a tough way to get knocked out of the tourney.

***On the uniform question...I asked at the tourney meeting and was told all uniforms had to be matching. Now you may be alright if it's just some piping or some minor alteration. Our JV and Varsity uniforms are two different colors, so none of those JV girls can come up and play because they have different uniforms. Most ludicrous thing I have ever heard!! Now the OHSAA is part of the fashion police...I know it's a NFHS rule not an OHSAA rule, but just the same!! Lets use some common sense here!!!

Our high school uses uniforms for several years, and hands them down from team to team some. We don't have the budget to buy 3 sets of uniforms all at once. In the meantime, styles change, etc.

In some cases - large schools buy 25-30 uniforms at a time - so when post season comes along on the chance they roster that many - they are good to go. In addition the girls do not get to keep them - they are handed down year to year - every school should do something similar so this question isnt really a question.

....and that's why you set up expense liability entries to smooth out the cost over three or four years. I'm with Parma. At the very least, Varsity and JV teams should have the same uniform. Heck, that's the way HS football teams are set up. Not to mention uniforms are a depreciable expense. Also, high schools should purchase uniform styles that never go out of style. For instance, softball teams should buy no collar button down solid or pinstripe jerseys and solid or pinstripe belted pants. The school colors can be shown in the lettering and numbers.

I'm a Finance guy myself Lenski so I understand what you're saying, but it's not about spreading out the depreciable expense in most schools I know of ... its about the cash budget the non-revenue athletic programs get each year. Otherwise, I would agree with you that buying all the same at once would be the way to go. Our school had 18 varsity uniforms, and we'd use the extras to give to any "call-ups" that came in for regular season or tournament games. As noted earlier, only 18 can be in the dugout, and I can't think of much reason to need more than that anyhow.
